bumfire Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) I have 2 questions after reading the manual. First one, the computer warning lights on the righthand side back panel, do they ever light up if the computer gets damaged ? I ask because I have never ever seen them light up, but saying that I cant recall a computer failure so that will be the reason for that, but if I were to get a computer failure of some sort, would they light up except the one that is marked as no function in the manual ? Has anyone ever seen them illuminate ? Look at article 6-69 of page 6-93 in the paid for manual for info on that question. and Secondly. One of the radio settings has an option for "communication with ground unit's" which I presume is communicating with say a tank or infantry etc. Can I actually hear or communicate with ground units other than Tower and ground/maintenance crew ? I ask that because in the manual it doesnt say "no function" for the "communicate with ground units" so I presume it must work otherwise it would say no function which it doesnt. Not The HON setting in russian pit mode which is for ground crew comms, but the YKB1 setting which it says is for ground unit comms. Look at article 6-77 of page 6-105 in the paid for manual for info on that question. So can anyone answer my two questions ? cheers. Edited June 28, 2009 by bumfire
bumfire Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 wow, 52 hits and not one answer :( Ahwell, I take it that nobody knows. not to worry.
Panzertard Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) 1. Never seen it illuminate - altough now that you've menationed it, I'll keep an eye out for it. 2. No. Ground crew only - I've never experienced any AI using radio communication other than the "hardcoded" groundcrew. (Aka Boris according to a member in the 159'th). :) I've seen no evidence of mechanisms supporting "intelligent" ground unit communication. EDIT: "Manuals"? I have to look that up somewhere ... :D Edited June 29, 2009 by Panzertard The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
AlphaOneSix Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Communication with ground units is not currently supported, although one-way communications from ground units to you can be scripted.
bumfire Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) Yea Panzertard, I havent seen the computer failure lights aswell, but thats probably because I cant ever recall getting a computer failure, but I was just wondering if anyone had seen them light up. As for the "Ground Units", the only units I have heard on the ground are ground crew and tower, ground crew is the right most setting on the dial, whilst "ground units" is marked as VHF1 in english and YKB1 in russian in the manual which is a totally seperate channel from the ground crew channel. I can only assume that that setting is just to contact the tower with as VHF1/YKB1 is the default setting to speak with the Tower in the game, I was really hoping that it was also used to hear actual ground units also which sadly doesnt look to be the case :( It would of been really cool if ground unit comms were available ingame other than tower and GC, even if we couldnt communicate with them but only hear what they were saying across the net. Ahwell, cheers for replying anyway ;) Edited June 29, 2009 by bumfire
bumfire Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 Communication with ground units is not currently supported, although one-way communications from ground units to you can be scripted. My previous post was in the middle of being typed up before you replied. So, comms with ground units isnt supported atm, but is or was meant to be in the game at some point in the future ? Thats great that 1 way ground unit comms can be scripted, even that can bring more depth to the game as you can hear chatter from ground units over the net whilst flying, so battle talk could be scripted whilst you are flying to take part in the battle, thats great. Is their any instructions on how to do so or even a quick description on how to do it and what files need to be altered ?
AlphaOneSix Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 It's all part of creating a mission, which I have nearly zero experience with, but I know you just create an audio file, and then set a trigger in the mission editor that plays it at some point. That's not a very helpful description, but I'm sadly dumbtarded when it comes to making complex missions.
bumfire Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Ah, so its just adding an audio file, I did hear of that but didnt really know what it was all about. But I guess that would make sense, set a trigger point for the audio file to start and it could be like infantry etc asking you to cover them or to target a specific area or vehicle. Would of been better if it was like the radio, where you can tune into radio comms of ground units instead of tuning into a russian radio station :) Cheers for pointing me in the right direction anyway ;)
44HardCorps Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Hi mate, this small mod by CooperCobra03 works a treat. Just add whichever type of audio you want to listen to. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39931&highlight=squelch Hope thats of some help.
bumfire Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Cool, I will give that a try and see what its like, cheers 44HC ;)
Martillo1 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Communication with ground units is not currently supported, although one-way communications from ground units to you can be scripted. So VHF1 is useless? Vista, Suerte y al Toro! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hilikusopus Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 To answer the first question: the "no function" text is confusing because of the formating, but I believe it refers to whole preceding list of computer advisory lamps above, and not just the final one next to which is written "no function". That was my take when I first read it.
AussieFX Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yea Panzertard, I havent seen the computer failure lights aswell, but thats probably because I cant ever recall getting a computer failure, but I was just wondering if anyone had seen them light up. Try the lamps test button, hold the left mouse button down then turn around and check to see if they are lit. The test button should light every warning lamp that is operational. I'd rep you for that but I can't.. :megalol:
