Honez Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Title says it all, DCS would really take a huge step forward by giving us a split screen visualizer so we can place objects exactly in the right place without having to run the mission only to see that the object is in the wrong position we intended it to be. Going in and out really costs us a lot of time. Forgive me if this topic is already posted somewhere. 1
Wrecking Crew Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Pardon the night-time image, I turned the Gamma all the way up for it. We used to have a DCS Witchcraft that gave real-time placement of objects. That is what I made this factory setup with. What was that, ten years ago? There is a new effort called DCS Web Editor. I've just started looking into it. It also has a Moving Map that runs in a browser that displays my F10 view on a tablet. https://www.patreon.com/c/DcsWebEditor/posts 1 Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. Honez Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 Thanks guys, I am aware of the web editor and am supporting it as a patron. I keep playing with it but don't find it as easy to use as the native DCS editor given I have so much time in learning it. I just need to breakdown and put in the time with the Web Editor. I just find it hard to believe that we haven't seen that feature added to the current native DCS editor. Again, I do appreciate the feedback. 1

After YEARS of creating missions for DCS, I've simply stopped hoping for this. Maybe that makes me part of the problem, IDK. I simply stopped putting any expectations on ED development of a visualization element of the ME. I can only imagine the spaghetti bowl of code the ME is built on after all these years. Probably 20K+ person-hours of work to incorporate something like that - and the risk of breaking other elements of the ME is probably fairly high. That being the case, I'd theorize the only real solution is to create a brand new ME for DCS. Given the limited set of resources and zero revenue opportunity for a modern ME, I simply don't see ED making significantly impactful features like a visualizer - ever. Once the DC web editor is stable, I will probably invest my time there. 1 System Specs: Spoiler Callsign:Kandy Processor:13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K - RAM: 64GB - Video Card: NVIDIA RTX 4090 - Display: Pimax 8kx VR Headset - Accessories: VKB Gunfighter III MCG Ultimate, VKB STECS Standard, Thrustmaster TPR Pedals, Simshaker JetPad, Predator HOTAS Mounts, 3D Printed Flight Button Box Video Capture Software: Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), Video Editing Software: PowerDirector 35 Into The Jungle (MP Mission) F18: Scorpion's Sting Apache Campaign - Griffins Kiowa Campaign - Assassins
Gambit21 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 We need 3D editing ability in the native editor. I designed missions in 3D for years, once you have it, it's a kick in the teeth to go back to 2D only. The DCS editor is superior on most ways, but needs a 3D view. 1
