Could an option please be added in the mission editor so that the user can select whether the AI flies left or right turns in the race-track or orbit? At present they only turn left.

This minor tweak would hugely assist with practicing formation flying, as then we could practice formation turns in both directions. I find it odd that it wasn't created with this simple option.

Many thanks and best regards,
Peter

Tanker orbit tracks can use both left and right hand turns, however left hand are the more normal due to basic physical geometry of the pilot.

Its easier to make slight small adjustments when pushing the whole forearm over to the left, versus the right.

A way to test is load up your favourite helicopter, and set the centre point of the stick so when you are say 5 or more degrees stick right, the sim thinks it’s vertical. Now maintain a stable hover with the stick deflected to the right as its central point.

Then repeat with the same but at left.

You will find it easier with it at left when using your right arm.

G.J.S, could you explain please how I get a tanker in a rac-track pattern to turn to the right? You say this is possible, but how?

Many thanks.

Pretty sure he means in the real world, not in DCS.  He's explaining why left turns are the normal.

Well my question visibly referred to DCS, and was not about real flying. And this is the DCS forum....

It is amazing how everybody wants to be a teacher ("Gosh, I've got a little morsel of information. It's not what the guy is asking, but I'm desperate to prove that I know something! And to feel relevant!")

In the Hornet Caucasus AAR mission, it turns to starboard. Maybe you can look at the mission and see if they've done something in to make that happen.

Without having looked at it, i would guess that it's not the racetrack orbit function at work, but a custom waypoint loop with "switch waypoint"...
