Waffle 1-1 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I often lack a great deal of focus and so I split my time between the Wolfpack and Beware! Beware! campaigns. My love for the P47 won out and I spent a chunk of time flying that campaign first. So back to this one. It feels like a very familiar style: you are part of a larger war, your actions are of consequence but not to the point of single-handedly determining the outcome. Survive, don’t be a hero. It’s a style I like. As a pilot I should be able to decide if the engagement makes sense and then live with the consequences. I can only imagine being part of a real effort like this, but these missions give an armchair pilot like me a chance to get 1% of a clue. The missions are well made and give you a combination of the boredom of flying give or take the same route every other day whilst still making sure you always have the chance to get yourself into a lot of trouble. Now I’m not an ace fighter pilot, as demonstrated by my 4 confirmeds, but I am certain a better pilot can get a double or triple ace in this campaign. As with Wolfpack, I can’t recommend this enough. By chance I had just finished First Light by Geoffrey Wellum and I think some inspiration may have been taken from this excellent book. If you like the campaign, I recommend the book as well. Always nice to see some of the reality of the war reflected in a campaign I fly!
Reflected Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thank you and congratulations on completing it! Funny you mention the mission design and the boredom vs action. The best part of historical campaigns like this is that I had nothing to do with this sort of 'dramaturgy'. I merely followed the combat reports and squadron records.
