fjacobsen Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) I can see that Phase 3 get´s very close to, but does not cover the Area where one of Denmarks primary cold war Airbases are placed (also primary today). EKSP (Skrydstrup) is today the only fighter base remaining in Denmark, holding all F-16's and F-35's. During the cold war F-100 where also based there (OBS !! Grinelly F-100 :)). So please move the northern part of phase 3 a tad further north. This would also add Leck AB and Roemoe Island to the weast of Skrydsrup, where Danish F-100 used to conduct bombing excersises.  Edited March 15 by fjacobsen 22 | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. Vähäkylä Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Definitely agree. Even just one Danish airbase will do wonders. 1
Wacky Posted March 17 Posted March 17 +1 absolutely! I'd totally love to see Karup Airbase, too, but it seems to be a bit too far up north... Adding Skrydstrup and the area of South Jutland as you have marked on the map would be really awesome, not least for Baltic approach missions. Â 2
clarasdk Posted March 18 Posted March 18 +1 on Skrydstrup adding a few extra KM of Denmark to include this airbase would be really nice both for cold war scenarios but also for modern stuff with Vipers and F35 when we get it. Both are currently stationed in Skrydstrup. I assume this would lead to more sales of the map If you add the area around Skrydstrup and move the western line into the atlantic you could inlcude Esbjerg that is a very important harbor for cold war resupply strategies. The plan was that the nato allies in Europe (remember when that was still a thing....) should fight and stall the Soviet forces in the Fulda gap, given USA time to restoke troops and equipment via the atlantic sea, among other via Esbjerg harbor. This would also add more naval possibilists. No matter what this map has be more hyped about DCS World than any other release since the Viper.   6
fjacobsen Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 (edited) I agree about Esbjerg, but didn't want to "demand" more than appropriate. Also just north of Esbjerg (at my horizontal blue line) one of north Europes largest military excercise areas "Oksboel" is placed, where the Danish Airforce conduct bomb training and the army trains with Tanks and Artillery. f16sim Posted March 18 Posted March 18 (edited) +1 on EKSP/SKSÂ Please add Skrydstrup Airbase in Phase 3. Adding this small part of southern Jutland will definitely make sense in a Cold War scenario. The planned attack on Western Europe involved Warsaw Pact forces from Poland and DDR to advance up through Jutland. Just east of Jutland is LillebĂŚlt - one of the strategic important Danish straits which connect the Baltic Sea to the North Sea. These straits were the point of exit for the Soviet Baltic Fleet. Tubesnake Posted March 18 Posted March 18 (edited) Please add Skrydstrup. That would be so cool! Edited March 18 by Tubesnake 2
Gunpod Posted March 18 Posted March 18 +1 on Skrydstrup Even though we might get VÌrløse/EKVL, it isn't really a base relevant for DCS due to the lack of fighter jets stationed there. Why bother having Denmark included if there isn't a "real" airbase? 2
songfire Posted March 18 Posted March 18 This is the closest we will get to getting Denmark included in DCS, even if we dont get the entire country, it would be awesome to have at least one proper airbase included! 2
mazex Posted March 18 Posted March 18 (edited) Looking at the very interesting inclusion of Sweden and Denmark in the map that is great, the line unfortunately cuts out the military airfields in southern Sweden from the era. Those were F10 Ăngelholm (J-35 Draken), F5 Ljungbyhed (SK-60 trainers) and F17 Kallinge (JA37/SH37 Viggens). Today only F17 is still operational with JAS-39 Gripens. Sure, there is a large civilian airport outside MalmĂś (Sturup) that is included. But there have never been military aircraft there. And the old Bulltofta airfield in MalmĂś (closed in 1972) had the F10 wing during WW2 but it moved to Ăngelholm in 1945. So - with the current proposal there will be no military airbases in Sweden. A very small adjustment would include F10 and F5. A bit more and you get F17 that is still relevant today. For Denmark, the RĂśnne air base was used sometimes in the cold war but no permanent base in the 80:ies, and VĂŚrløse near Copenhagen that is included in the map had some C-130s and helicopters. So the relevant Danish base that could be included for late cold war is Skrydstrup that had F-16s and still have today. A small adjustment would include that as well. Otherwise no active Danish late cold war air bases will be on the map... I attach a screenshot from a CMANO Scenario I did called "Baltic Storm" where I have marked them and also included the phase 1/2 lines for the DCS Cold War Germany map. That scenario is mainly Soviet vs Sweden, but you get support from a squadron of F-16s in Skrydsrup and 4 F-35XDs on Bornholm  EDIT: I see that my proposal got moved under this as I included Skrydsrup out of good manners to our Danish neighbors. But my main topic is the Swedish ones EDIT2: Added my propsal for Phase 2 in yellow and the optimal in violet to include F17 that is active today (as Skrydsrup). This would also include all of Sjealland and Fyn (the two big Danish islands), as that feels logical. The potential landing beach for a Soviet landing in Sweden is also in the yellow proposed area (the east coast of SkĂĽne). Adding an image of the Kullen lighthouse I took flying an old swedish airforce SK-50 some months ago. That is the blue radar box under the F in the text "F10: J 35 Draken" on the image below that feels like a good "corner of the map". And a good place to hide Carriers  Sadly 4 Swedish Vampires crashed into Kullen near this place in the late 50:ies, coming in very low and fast, in low visibilty conditions. It is actually rather high for this part of Sweden... mazex Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) The only "airbases" that would be viable in the proposed phase 2 or phase 3 for Sweden would be: - Sturup (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xn8R4R8drkNqxQwu8). The civilian airport of MalmĂś built in 1972 that has never been used by the Swedish air force actively (no aircraft spending the night there). It is however a reserve base in the case of war and Gripens land there and refuel / rearm occasionally. - BjĂśrka auxillary field (https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZvjvesD8WUVv2FCk7) . Built by the military in 1939 as a 1000 meter grass field initially, then expanded to 2000 meters paved. Swedish aircraft are built to not need long and vacuum cleaned runways. It was permanently closed in 1998. It was just a reserve base in the cold war, but there are aircraft shelters, bunkers etc. Today it is still used by the Swedish army for training urban combat with fake buildings in the middle of the strip. So no landing there  Image from Google Maps... There are some road bases that could be included as well, linked to BjĂśrka. SjĂśbo (https://maps.app.goo.gl/99tbQwf6yAiRoeDv8), Revinge (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RDyAeFoX9UD3H1yn7) But both F10 and F5 where large air bases that were very actively used during the cold war (included in the yellow proposal above). Adding an image of a line of Drakens from F10 Ăngelholm in the thick of the cold war... For the fun of it, I'm adding an image I took myself in another airbase in SkĂĽne called Rinkaby (https://maps.app.goo.gl/FmYWNvkufqgKLRFj6) in 2009 where they had flown some of the Drakens to die... It was closed in the 60:ies as it was too short for jets. So not relevant for DCS. But just along the yellow line... The more relevant nearby airport in the yellow area from that time would be EverĂśd (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CWa9ad8yjW7DM9rFA). It was also used as a reserve base by the air force during the late cold war. krazyj Posted March 21 Posted March 21 +1 to Skrydstrup and to include the southern part of Sweden. As you already included the Swedish suburb of Copenhagen Â
fjacobsen Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 (edited) Also Eggebek near Flensburg was home for the German Marineflieger F-104G's who both conducted recon missions and Naval strike with AS30 and AS34 Kormoran anti ship missiles, defending the Baltic approaches. Raising up in Sonderburg, southern Jutland, they aften flew at low altitude over my home, even so low that I could see the pilots. My grandparents btw, lived in Skrydstrup, so on holdays I saw alot of F-100's and later F-16's (I guess that all has triggered my interest and hobby) Edited March 26 by fjacobsen 2 | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. googzmo Posted April 14 Posted April 14 (edited) +1 On Skrydstrup as well apart from F-16's i can also remember being able to spot AWACS in the air, as a young kid in the early to mid 90's; growing up 25 km west of Skrydstrup And another thing; the northern part of Rømø is also an active shooting exercise area for F-16's and F-35 to this day Edited April 14 by googzmo 1
