HanuXXL Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Hi, been enjoying most excellent Baltic_dragons campaings and planned to get in action with a buddy, but what 2-player campaigns could you recommend? Operation Hormuz looks really nice, but the author tells in description already that you need normally at least 4 human players for completion. "Oil in the water" and "Operation Mountain Lion" seem to fill my player requirements. Can anyone tell these still work after all the DCS updates? Anything else you could recommend? Also I've not hosted scripted campaigns yet, so do you have to host these on local server or can you run campaigns in dedicated server also?
Mistermann Posted March 17 Posted March 17 (edited) I'd really recommend you try out Hormuz. My group of 3 pilots flew it and had an absolute blast. You don't need 4 players. I flew many of these missions with just one other pilot and never really felt cheated by the experience at all. Out of the 24 missions in that campaign, there might have been 3-4 that needed more players to "succeed". Honestly, if you fly the missions, complete assigned objectives (for the 2 pilots in game), and return, I'd consider that a "success". That's how my group approached it. This campaign is one of only a handful of purpose built MP experiences I've ever seen. Admittedly, I've not attempted OIW or OML - didn't realize they were purposely made for MP. As for hosting. I hosted Hormuz on a dedicated server as well as from a "local" server. I highly recommend a dedicated server if you can as it offloads some of the compute off your main gaming rig. I know of no other MP campaigns made for the Hornet. Sadly, very few mission makers tackle MP content. If you and your buddy fly the Apache, I'd point you to the Griffins campaign linked in my signature. Got to check that Apache campaign too; thanks for the heads up! 1
Dunska Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Operation Hormuz is great - I played that with a mate in 2-player co-op and it was fine. We've also played Operation Mountain Lion and Oil in the Water - both cool, but I would recommend opening each miz file in the Mission Editor and saving it, so it updates for stuff in the latest DCS versions. I think we had to enable/disable the carrier deck crew in some missions as the statics on deck messed it up. We also removed the dust from some missions in OitW as the new dust/fog made it very hard to see anything.
Dunska Posted March 19 Posted March 19 jdba97 has also started a series of F/A-18, co-op missions (three so far) called "Operation Ceder Shield". I haven't played them yet, but worth a look: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/type-is-multiplayer/unit-is-fa-18c/user-is-jdba97/apply/
