peirof Posted Saturday at 06:27 AM Posted Saturday at 06:27 AM Hi, It's been a while since I played/simulated DCS, and I'd like your recommendation for a profile for HOTAS. The model I have is the Thrusmaster Hotas Warthog, with the F18 grip. At first, I'll use it for this DCS module, the F18... I remember there are profiles for mapping controls in a "realistic" way... but that doesn't really matter to me. Considering I'm a complete novice, I'd like your recommendation for a profile to use in the Thrustmaster software (T.A.R.G.E.T) so I don't have to remap the controls in DCS, and that maintains the difficult balance between fidelity and ease of use. Another question I have for the community is What is better, or what would you prefer: mapping controls with external software (in this case, T.A.R.G.E.T) or mapping them in DCS? Thanks in advance.
Aero4000 Posted Saturday at 07:30 AM Posted Saturday at 07:30 AM I use VKB hardware and software, but I can share my point of view. When it becomes clear that I want to fly with a lot of different modules, I came to the conclusion that it would be best to move away from the authenticity of a particular aircraft and have more or less similar control settings for everyone. For example: radar control, weapon selection, screen switching, etc. can be configured in approximately the same way. This allows you to fly with different modules on the same day without delving too deeply into your own memory. I make control settings in external software, that are 100% the same for the entire game, such as managing views. I make specific assignments of keys and axes for each module inside DCS, because most of them cannot be mapped to the same commands for different modules. This allows you not to create too many profiles of external software, but to use only one or two universal ones. So, I recommend feeling free in the settings. 1 Спойлер 13700F, 64Gb DDR5 6000 MHz, RTX4080 16Gb, 27’ QHD 75 Гц FreeSync; Windows 11; VKB STECS Max HOTAS, VKB Gunfighter MK IV+ MCG Ultimate; VKB TRudder pedals MK V; VKB UCM Stronghold holders; Wireless TrackIR.
peirof Posted Saturday at 11:28 AM Author Posted Saturday at 11:28 AM I understand that you are right... But largely it's because you have a starting point, from which you can then adjust the key assignment based on how you use it. I do see that it makes a lot of sense, to use a profile that can be used for several modules... But I guess it's going to be hard 1

Absolutely right! For most older players, the A-10C became the reference point. You can master any module as a reference. Just fly with several modules and then the optimal settings will become clear.
