Is there anything new in the pipeline for the near future? Terrain update, long term known bugs fixes, etc Looking at the PG threads it seems pretty dead in activity. Is it abandoned? Just trying to get a idea if I need to shelf this for my squadron missions, respectfully.

Last update for PG was back on 08/09/2024 for ground radar return. Last major update was on 12/27/2022 DCS 2.8.1 for https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/release/2.8.1.34667.2/

I would also like to see an update to the map. After all, it is a few years old map. The question is whether the update would bring the visual aspect of the Gulf closer to current maps. It is based on older technology and would require a lot of work and the result would not reach the current level. The same goes for the Caucasus and Nevada. Time is running out and development is moving forward. ED does not have the resources to upgrade old maps and another question is whether there would be any interest in it at all. In addition, the Iraqi map will also include part of the Persian Gulf.

I would think developments in AI would make updating/upgrading these kinds of things much more feasible & less demanding in terms of human labor hours. Or is AI only useful for doing really important stuff, like generating an endless amount of absurd images to get shared on the internet by Aunt Marcy.

This sort of programming ought to be AI's wheelhouse.

Using available high definition data maps precedes ''AI'' (current marketed buzz wording for automation).

X-World and Global Forest for X-plane are fine examples of using data to uplift a virtual terrain in global scale and not just in a DCS map sized area.

It is more about the old tech used on PG vs new ones. New maps like Iraq and Afghanistan has gradient for vegetation placement while old maps don't. There is a lot of data omitted from the PG that could be included on a update, but the product is set as completed and it is just in maintenance mode. We can only hope on a paid upgrade.

One of the reasons I actually like products marked as Early Access because it is an indication that it can substantially change like what we've seen with South Atlantic, Afghanistan, Iraq...etc.
