I'm currently working up my 1944 scenario and fancy setting it in Oct, i.e. when the allied advance had pretty much ground to a halt, post Market Garden, and whilst waiting for the supply chains to support themselves out.

I found this website quite useful for suitable weather:

Hmm, looks like I'm a bit stuffed on the timescales that I was thinking of.  Even by March 45', they'd only taken the ground area that we have airfields on in a very small area, and they were much too close to the front line to have been active airfields at the time.  

Guess I'll go with the fictional version...
