cobrabase Posted May 22 Posted May 22 (edited) I had an interesting thing happen to me yesterday and I thought I'd ask about it. I was flying in Cold War Germany in rain from the back seat - I switch to the front to perform a task and notice we are ascending from around 150 feet to 300 feet. I pull up the george pilot AI menu and ask to sink down to around 110 feet. No response. I jump to the pilots seat and take her down to 110 feet myself. I switch back to the gunners seat and we start to ascend back to 300 feet where we stop. This is something new that I have never seen before. I am not sure if it is: a. new update that has changed George pilot behavior b. some AI protocol that kicks in when it is raining c. an issue only seen in the Germany map Give it a try and see if you get the same issue. Like I said, I've never seen it before the 5/21/25 update. Edited May 22 by cobrabase error [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ShuRugal Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Maybe ED sent George to flight school, and now he only wants to fly at the MEA or MOCA?
cobrabase Posted May 22 Author Posted May 22 (edited) 5 minutes ago, ShuRugal said: Maybe ED sent George to flight school, and now he only wants to fly at the MEA or MOCA? Yeah maybe! He did not appear to be doing a 300 feet AGL but barometric. It's weird. Edited May 22 by cobrabase typo [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cobrabase Posted May 26 Author Posted May 26 This issue appears to happen only in the Germany map. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JimmyWA Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I have had the same problem, flying in Germany. Except George ascends up to about 2000 feet! Immediately makes me a target when I ask George to go from a hover at 20 feet to start flying. I have attached my track file - this happens all the time since the last update. JimmyWA Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Tonight I flew on the Sinai map, Falklands and Caucauses and George behaved perfectly. Tried the German map again, and George just wants to keep going up! 1 i9 12900KS, ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 APEX, 64 GB DDR5 4700 mhz, ASUS RTX4090, Water cooled, C - NVME SSD, DCS on NVME, TM HOTAS Warthog Stick (with extension) & Throttle, Crosswind rudder Pedals, 2 x Thrustmaster MFDs on LCD Screens, Varjo Aero VR, Logitech game controller
Schmidtfire Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Keep in mind that the Germany map has a highly detailed and varied terrain mesh, with small slopes and inclines everywhere. Have you tested George over flat water in the north part of the Germany map? Obviously George should function properly over land, but it might get us a clue if it's a reaction to an object or something in the terrain mesh.
JimmyWA Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Flying over an airfield should be pretty telling - elevation wise. Yet as soon as I take off from the airfield and jump into the CPG, following the runway, up we go! It is very consistent - no I haven't tried it over water, but considering how hilly the Falklands are, I don't think I need to. I think the clue is that others have reported the same thing - it only happens on the German map. 1 i9 12900KS, ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 APEX, 64 GB DDR5 4700 mhz, ASUS RTX4090, Water cooled, C - NVME SSD, DCS on NVME, TM HOTAS Warthog Stick (with extension) & Throttle, Crosswind rudder Pedals, 2 x Thrustmaster MFDs on LCD Screens, Varjo Aero VR, Logitech game controller
Volator Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Happened to me on NTTR map too. 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
shaols_1 Posted Friday at 06:12 PM Posted Friday at 06:12 PM This happens to me on every map. I ask George to hover at any given altitude and he always replies with, "coming up". The only time he will actually descend is if I set the requested altitude to zero. Once he touched ground. I'll request him to hover at ten feet. He'll respond with "coming up" followed by locking altitude". But he does not stop at ten feet. He continues to ascend. If I ask him to go up to twenty or any altitude above, he will continue to climb right through the requested altitude. If I ask him to descend, his response is always "coming up". This happens on any map, at any airspeed, any configuration - lightweight or heavyweight.
DD_fruitbat Posted Friday at 08:39 PM Posted Friday at 08:39 PM Happened tome on Syria lastnight, most times he was fine, but one time I was about 50ft and asked George to take over, and had to snatch back the controls as he merrily started to unmask me and climb up steadily .
