Salute,

Not had a chance to explore this yet but has anyone else found what it all means to us Hook Jockeys?

Visit the Dangerdogz at www.dangerdogz.com. We are a group based on having fun (no command structure, no expectations of attendance, no formal skills required, that is not to say we can not get serious for special events, of which we have many). We play DCS and IL2 GBS. We have two groups one based in North America / Canada and one UK / Europe. Come check us out.

Hi,

we will be updating the manual in the future, we still have some refining to do on the CDU pages that we want to complete before the manual is updated.

I set out last night to look into this new feature, but going in blind I knew it was not going to be easy!

I managed to get the new display to appear on the MFD for one flight.

It contains a much larger VSI arc that is easier to read. There was another graphic that I could not work out what it showed me.

The annoying thing is that on my second flight I could not get it to appear again (the first time it appeared on the display was when I must have been within some flight parameters, eg very slow level speed and very little change in altitude).

I did add a waypoint to the flight plan (and tried to change its type to "HOV" but could not) for my first flight and did the same for the second.

This really is frustrating that we have been given this new feature and absolutely no clue how to use it.

@BIGNEWY I get that ED is working on a fully detailed update for the controls but could we at least just have some screen shots and simple notes explaining what it does and how to enable it to tide us over and get us started?

Edit: How rude of me, I forgot to say please...and keep up the excellent work you are doing on this module.

I have asked the team if we can share something before it is finished.

thanks

So, I was messing around with it myself. And I believe it's a landing / hover graphic. Have your MFD set to the HSD, and after you take off and as long as you are below 40kn it should display. Like a more detailed version of the VSD.

Yep, I concur with that.

I think it was this step that I only managed to complete on my first trip - but can not remember what I did? can you confirm the process to get to this mode?

I was able to get it to show up while grounded, by pushing the B1 button on the MFD until HSDH showed. It does go away above 40 knots, and comes back below. It transitions to the previous mode.

@Loch89 Many thanks for that.

We now just need to work out what L6, L7, L8 and L9 do to the function.

Cheers

I was playing with the hover display mode a little bit...Take it with a pinch of salt 🙂
L6 draws a line to the reference "hover" ACP (for example, the landing waypoint you set in the ME — I don't know how to change to other waypoint types for the Chinook via the CDU).
L7 changes the scale, L8 sets the reference "hover" point right below you, L9 and R6 do nothing at the moment, I think.

Hoping to have some time later this week to have a nose at the new updates, this is probably the largest one for a while, even if it is restricted to the cockpit. It's good that we're getting tweaks here and there, but there's still loads to do!

Yeah that would make sense as the hover range is around 0 to ~40knots, beyond that you're transitioning into forward flight.
