Joystick extension

What length of extension would people advise for flying warbirds? I am considering 225 mm.

For Thrustmaster warthog with Thrustmaster base. I am considering the Moza AB9 at some point.

Longer (within reason) is better because it gives you finer control. 

I would calculate the longest extension your play space allows so that you do not bang your knuckles on something.

Also, the base of the stick needs to be at an appropriate height and location.

You need to replicate a real world arrangement with the stick coming out the floor between the pilot's thighs.

Thanks for the advice. The longest one I can get from this source is 250mm. 

I have repurposed an old wall mounted angular monitor bracket which is attached to the bottom of my desk. This allows me to alter the position of the joystick and fold it away. I think should work with an extension too. I'll measure up.

With the AB9, none.

Two reasons:

- I found the side to side throw of the grip to be excessive with the 250mm extension

- longer extension influences the torque being applied at the grip as you’ve got more leverage

Just site the AB9 at an appropriate height.

I haven't got an AB9 yet. It's a lot more expensive than an extension. How is the 250 mm extension with a spitfire or other warbird?

I used the extension with a Virpil T50 base and Alpha grip.  IMO, brilliant and well worth the effort.

I have the 200 mm example of theirs.  SimFab also offers an extension kit with three different extension lengths, made of metal. And examples for other manufacturers besides TM.

Would a 325, 100mm extension be too much? It would work with my seating position.

250mm worked brilliantly with the T50 base, but then that was designed for an extension, has less travel side to side and stronger springs when compared to say their warbird base.  Knowing next to nothing about your TM base, sorry, can't comment.

Seeing as how this is a Thrustmaster thread, you may be interested.........

Thrustmaster just released two extensions, a straight and a Helo curved, both with adjustable offsets.

They also released damper clutches and new FBW (Fly-by-Wire) cams.
