I'm on a fresh install of XP and I have the newest ATI drivers which is 9.7 the install went fine but whenever I click on singleplayer the launcher.exe error comes up.

I also disable Catalyst A.I. control but the error still persists This is the boxed version of the game

What error? You need a bit better description here :)

What about giving us some system specifications, screenshots, crash reports? (See stickies in this forum for more hints).

Maybe you have some incompatible devices - who knows :)

Sorry just a little frustrated..

the error I had before I removed my video drivers was atioglxx.dll

However now with the drivers removed I hear a little bit of the music and it gives the same launcher error. But this time the error is opengl32.dll

I'm running Windows XP with SP3 I have 2Gb of ram CPU is a AMD Sepron 3100+ the video card is a Ati radeon 9600XT

with my new hardware I will be building I'm a little leery that I brought a game that really does not fully work well on ATI hardware since my radeon 4870 arrived yesterday.

You should have read the stickies, it tells you how to post a .crash file - it works better if you can do a little work to get some info.

Without more info (.crash and a DxDiag) let's start by guessing :)

There's been one fella with a similar problem, it was his codecs: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=650854&postcount=2

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=651136&postcount=8

Someone else, reinstall Windows (problem was in the system):

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=598922&postcount=5

Then someone else reinstalled their drivers:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=599063&postcount=6

Then there's several references to uninstalling / cleaning graphics drivers here:

- As well someone mentioning similar issues elsewhere, related to the soundsystem (realtek / codecs):

paperclip.gif Launcher.exe error with different graphics cards

And then you have the MS SideWinder (mouse) issues - it's not compatible.

Hm not sure if I have any more wild guesses ;)

the log file? I did search and I had no log file at all to post under the program directory.

And lets see I don't have any codecs installed nor do I use a sidewinder

So it's the drivers and OS left.. and I'm betting the drivers since I had the newest 9.7 drivers installed.. I mean I just installed this OS yesterday

So I still can't play yet but I can play online.. not a good thing trying to learn how to get up in the air for the first time I still can't yet.. But I got the engines started.

Try version 8.12 of the ATI driver suite. That one is known to fix most instances of the problem you seem to be describing, but to know for sure we'd need more information.

But yes, there's some severe issues in ATI's implementation of OpenGL, which causes issues with Launcher.exe.

Log files should be in the Temp folder within your Black Shark directory, named "error.log" and "errors.log", those can help immensely in diagnosing the problem, but I am fairly certain that this is indeed the one that was usually solved by 8.12.

I'm using 8.12 of the ATi drivers now :-/ what is the point of launcher.exe?

The mutiplayer seems to start up just fine without it.

and everyone keeps talking about this error.log file I sure don't see it..

I've had the infamous 'Launcher.exe' problem for weeks. Reinstalling the graphicdrivers worked, but I had to repeat that every time I wanted to run BS.

If present on your system, try uninstalling all Asus programs such as Asus Videosecurity and Gamer OSD.

Another cause could be an ASIO soundcard, as ASIO only allows one program to have access to the device; the launcher might be regarded as a second application.

For me, I believe the Asus software that came with my mobo was the culprit.

Hope this helps..good luck.

In your case it would be present in: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Temp\

There's a file named error.log and one named errors.log

Also, as has been indicated, ensure that you run driver-sweeper when reinstalling drivers and changing driver versions, otherwise there can be remnants of old drivers still there.

Uninstall ati drivers and try DriverSweeper to remove all traces of old drivers and then install drivers back.

the link is dead

crap so I ran driverswaper and removed the ATI files and all and reinstalled the 8.12 drivers.. so what happens now is I hear the music in the background and it has a white screen that says loading but it still gives me the launcher.exe crash screen.

Lua::Config::call error server.on_disconnect:./Scripts/net/server.lua:82: bad argument #3 to 'format' (string expected, got nil)

- So you tested against a server? (Not sure is that is relevant to the case right now - it could be loaded for SP player as well, and just a unhandeled error - plenty of those).

- Did you get any files named "DCS-20090821-201959.crash" or similar? Those may be interesting too.

- Forgot to ask previously, could you please upload a DXDIAG report too, just in case we've missed something?

well I tested on a server because that's the only way I can remotely play the game...

and that DCS file in the temp folder? I never saw it.

The .CRASH file, supposed to be in the \Ka-50\Temp folder yes.

Hm, I'm getting a sneaking suspision here. ATI 9600 with 128Mb RAM according to your DXDIAG, topped with 1Gb system memory, which means you dont have anything extra.

From the minimum requirements on the DCS portal:

Graphics: 256 MB ATI or nVidia

You're below the minimum - however, I would like to hear from someone else beore concluding that this is one of the factors :)

And I want to hear from other ATI owners who have a 4870 1GB model I've already brought $400 in new hardware not related to this game but something else but I wont be a happy camper if the only way I can play is online.

the new system will have 8GB of ram

I forgot to point out.. I tried Black Shark on a new system I built for my mother which is based on a on-board video with a NVIDIA GeForce 7050.. she only has 2Gb for ram and a pentimum dual core.. while I did not get a launcher.exe error message the whole screen was white however if you tilt the LCD back you can see the faint buttons for the game for instant action and so on.
