pcartier Posted Tuesday at 11:36 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:36 PM I’m currently learning the F-14 and have run into a frustrating issue with Active Pause when switching to the RIO seat. Sometimes it works perfectly, but most of the time it doesn't—and when it doesn’t, it usually ends in a crash. Here’s what I’ve noticed: When it works: I can hop into the RIO seat, and my trim settings in the pilot seat stay at 0—everything’s stable. When it doesn’t: My pitch trim ends up way off—sometimes around 30 degrees nose-up—and I’m unable to trim it back down. The aircraft becomes uncontrollable, usually leading to a fatal stall or crash on resuming flight. Has anyone figured out the trick to making Active Pause consistently work when switching seats in the Tomcat? Any tips or workarounds from you seasoned pilots would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance! —Paul
Despayre Posted Wednesday at 01:36 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:36 AM I never hop into the RIO seat for anything, so I may be giving some useless information here, but if you flip the autopilot on, it instantly trims your plane to neutral. Have you tried that? Also, what are you getting into the RIO seat for? (unless you're actually flying as the RIO) I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too.
wwWolfcom Posted Wednesday at 02:19 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:19 AM (edited) Iceman AI will trim pitch up/down all the way when active pause. This is caused by how active pause works. Active pause will preserve momentum applied to plane. So the Iceman AI (Not true AI, just autopilot interface honestly) will keep trim to counter this momentum. What you have to do is de-active pause in RIO seat first, let iceman trim to normal position, and then hop into pilot seat. Edited Wednesday at 02:21 AM by wwWolfcom 1
pcartier Posted Wednesday at 02:29 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 02:29 AM Thanks everyone, I will try your suggestions. Also @Despayre I went to the back seat because I thought it was the only way to find and zoom in on targets for bombing. (I need to read the manual again)

(I need to read the manual again) If you mean using LANTIRN Jester can handle it: Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

"Look for Ground Targets" (or SAMs, or ships, or tanks, or activity) You just tell Jester what to do. VA with VAICOM is literally a gamechanger. I'm not updating this anymore. pcartier Posted Wednesday at 08:49 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 08:49 PM Thanks guys, doing everything from the front seat with Jester! The videos really help.
