This morning I have been reading in an M3 entry where he talks about cabin mirrors and that it is weighing the request of some users who complain about how "complicated the management of the Corsair engine is" and that they are asking M3 to "simplify it".

They have already thrown themselves into the pool putting the Water Master and now they are going to put the water injection that was introduced in 1946....; it seems to me a mistake..., but the bloody thing is that they are going to retouch the engine management model because people want to fly the Corsair to the Warthunder....

Is all this true?.

There are clear problems with the current implementation of ADI and engine management.

For one, you can't currently use WEP at 2700RPM without overboosting the engine, and that shouldn't be happening. And using the POH to make it "X time to failure" is no more realistic than not having it at all.

I’m guessing the people complaining about the engine management being too hard, have never flown the p-47, or tried taking off and landing a Spitfire with “takeoff assistance” turned off🤣.  Or they are too used to full burner at all times in more modern jets.  Maybe its not setup perfect and some aspects needs adjustments, sure ( WIP right?). But hard to fly and manage the engine? Most certainly not. If anything, I think it’s actually pretty tame, for a warbird… imo🤷‍♂️

The water injection controll mechanism we have now is the one installed in the final Goodyear built Corsairs, which were also the final F4U-1 series planes built during the summer of 1945. All contracts were quickly cancelled with the end of the war. Vought had already converted production to the F4U-4 model early that year. Only the manuals were updated in 1946.

Engine management shoud in no case be simplified to make it more "fun". There are other sims for that, or difficulty options in DCS themself. Make it optiopnal if you have to, a special option "indestructable engine" or so.

I fly the P47 all the time, never blew up the engine. And I never use takeoff assistance in any of the warbirds I own.

I have no problem in taking off, landing or managing the engine in any of them.

Yet the Corsair feels very weird, both in flight model and engine management (FM feels easy and artificial to me).

I agree with Saxman, having an engine that blows up every time you exceed POH for a few seconds is far from being realistic, quite the opposite actually.

And I’m not suggesting it should be easier or more “arcade” to manage. I’m suggesting it should have a more flexible, less rigid implementation; possibly with some power deterioration before the engine just dies.

But as you say, it’s still WIP so I hope it’ll get adjusted.

BTW, I love the F4U and I’m glad that Magnitude brought it to DCS, just trying to give some constructive feedback.

I would agree with that. Could use tweaking, but I don't think it should be easier or dumbed down, just adjusted to a more realistic manner. In a real car just because you hit redline doesn't mean the engine will blow instantly. Lots of variables in there to consider. I would assume aircraft engines are built with some pretty hefty safety margins.Just because you shouldn't go over a certain parameter, doesn't necessarily mean you can't.. maybe 🤷‍♂️ .... I love the Jug too .. I have seized the engine a few times not paying attention🤣 Only seized the F4U once, coming in for landing and again wasn't paying attention. Loving the F4U too but I agree it's close but not quite there.

In the Huey, at least with the old engine model, you could be above the red line for a while, but then it blew. Not sure if it was at minutes/seconds so and so. Or if it was a dice throw. Only happened to once. One could say I learned from my mistakes.

I fear so, given how quick M3 was to dump down the AWESOME original FM into the way more generic one we have now because ppl demanding that.
Don't get me wrong i'm still loving the bird, but it lost 90% of its character and just feels so damn generic now imho.. Let's hope engine isn't next in line, but the way things are going i wouldn't get my hopes up too high..

I guess we gotta wait and see.

The original flight model was FAR from being AWESOME. And I don’t particularly like the current one either.
