VR Issues: Shimmering, Ghosting, Double Image, and Hard or Impossible-to-Spot Enemy Aircrafts

There are currently 4 problems in VR:

1. terrible almost unplayable shimmering with DLSS off.

2. terrible almost unplayable aircraft ghosting and hard to spot aircrafts with DLSS on - even with latest DLSS 310.4.0 and preset K - especially when fighting over a forest, enemy aircrafts may literally turn into an unplayable messy warped streak of colors.

3. double aircraft image rendered in close range dog fights - even with DLSS and MSAA both off.

4. completely unplayable FSR or NIS (DLSS alternatives), since enemy aircrafts often literally become invisible in the sky.

These problems SHOULD BE FIXED - trying to play DCS without stuttering, ghosting, or shimmering, should not be an idiotic form of black art.

This report is for the developers. Do not respond if you only want to explain that this is the way it is and we should all just learn to live with it. Do not respond if you only want to list your black art list of work arounds that took you ages to compile and which does not really help or work.

Cheers, and thanks for an otherwise wonderful masterpiece (aside from the other annoying bugs that weigh it down, of course).

Hi,

all options mentioned come with quirks, and personal preference is the only way to go.

But lets start by attaching your dcs log and dxdiag maybe we can offer some tweaks that may help.

best regards

...not to mention that your settings compared to your hardware capabilities might be the issue...

nir is absolutely right. This has little to do with settings,  hardware and fps. I did some testing with different settings (I run a pimax crystal light and rtx4090). Planes appear out of nothing when they are very close, then they disappear and reappear while you track them, especiially when you use the vr zoom functions (eg you see the plan, but when you zoom in it disappears).

There are numerous threads about this issue and in no one I found a solution which really works (but perhaps someone can point me to the solution?)

Multiplayer dogfights are very frustrating, your chances are very low if you want to fly visually. ED should do something about this.

The only way to optimize your VR experience with DLSS is to make sure you use the most recent version and preset K. Then supersample to about 4800-5000 pixels. If you combine this with QVFR then you should get reasonable results. I find that there is only a slight smearing of aircraft against some backgrounds, low over trees for example. My biggest bug is spotting dots which look smudged compared to no AA or MSAA.
