What the latest procedure to repair an installation?

since the update today I'm getting error windows out the wazoo

I've had the same, delete all files inside Saved Games\DCS fxo and metashaders2 folders, run "repair DCS world" and select "check all files (slow)" + "search for extra files", if you use the launcher https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/repair/ .

Restart the OS.

well, the first slow repair run-through did not take, still showing damaged files

Check if DCS installation folder is in the antivirus exclusions.

I'm trying again after turning off MS Virus Defender but this is one window I got...

You don't need to turn off Defender, only to add E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World folder to the exclusions.

You could: perform a disk error check, make sure to have enough free space, manually delete the file/directory listed above and run another repair. Also take a look at the autoupdate_templog.txt in C:\Users\*your username*\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS .

Uh, no no, only the folders listed with "ERROR: RMDIR", so "E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\_downloads\Mods/terrains/Falklands/Models" and "E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Falklands\Models", but I suspect that you're having disk issues...

 

Edit: check if you have disk indexing enabled (right click on the disk letter), if so then disable it, can (will) cause issues when there is a huge number of files.

Yes. Or just copy across your existing stuff and run a slow repair. In either case, if moving to a different drive then update your shortcuts to point to the new location.

Be aware that there's two versions of the DCS repair function, i.e. normal and slow.

Sound like you might have used the normal.

IMO, the best method to manage DCS is using the free Skazezilla app: Skatezilla's DCS Updater Utility GUI - Flight Sims - Mudspike Forums

That allows you to easily manage multiple instances and easily enable the slow repair capability.

It also allows simple choosing of whether to run in VR or on a monitor, something I find very beneficial.

I copied everything to a new SSD and attempted to run DCS but got the same error msg. I'll try the slow repair from that location today.

well, I've given up and just re-installing on a new drive from fresh...the launcher ran and I'm now d/l my modules so sorry to tax everyone's patience

Btw, the _downloads folder is just the temporary folder used to download the update. So you could have just deleted that first, if it was corrupted then copying it directly may not have solved it.
