Zubumafu00 Posted Wednesday at 07:25 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:25 PM This sounds interesting, was this capability by design or a case like Hinds using R-60s to detect trucks at night in Afghanistan? And, on a related note, I wonder if using R-60, R-73 and R-27Ts against ground targets is something ED is interested in doing, assuming it's possible. 1

They wanted to do it for R-60 for Hind but claimed they needed to wait for new FLIR model, but then new FLIR model came out and Fox 2s were unaffected becuase I bet it’s a really big job. I’m sure they will get there. KOLS was not designed to detect ground targets, regardless as you see in game it will see hot ground, water, tracers, flares, clouds. So it’s very possible you could not only detect but lock a ground heat source that had enough contrast, which would be needed because when locking KOLS an auto gain circuit turns on that requires the target to have enough “contrast” to be distinguishable from both the background and internal noise. 1 Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

Aiming to the ground and naval targets with KOLS is descripted in combat manual that is not restricted. I m sure ED know about this feature. Edited Wednesday at 08:28 PM by Logan54 1

Dragon1-1 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago It wouldn't do a whole lot of damage, though. It can kill softskins or nearby infantry, but those expanding rod warheads are useless against any sort of armor. It's a small warhead for killing aircraft, not an ATGM. An IR seeker will track anything that has enough contrast, and you can certainly use IRST for tracking a target, for instance in order to strafe it, but an AA missile isn't going to be very effective in most cases.
AeriaGloria Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago There is also no way to disable proximity fuse. So if you intend to use missile against ground, the more vertical the attack the better so the proximity fuse isnt triggered too early.
