Lixma 06 Posted Saturday at 02:35 AM Posted Saturday at 02:35 AM (edited) In OPT mode (Air-2-Ground) with guns the pipper is obscured by the vertical element of the aircraft datum on the HUD. In fact the only time the A-G pipper becomes fully visible is during a Stuka-like 4G pull-up(!) which doesn't seem right. This video is a comparison showing how the FF Mig-29 is apparently 'shooting high' compared to the FC version. As you can see the FC Mig's guns are zeroed on the centreline, while the FF's are zeroed on the top of the aircraft datum. Might this explain why the FF's A-G pipper is in such a weird position? Realistic? ...or needs some tuning? Edited Saturday at 02:37 AM by Lixma 06
AeriaGloria Posted Saturday at 06:39 AM Posted Saturday at 06:39 AM (edited) You still sort of atleast see where the pipper is. I have a feeling it might be correct, I’ll do a test. One of the differences between FC3 MiG-29 and Su-27 was about this, the FC3 Su-27 boresight is where it is for the MiG-29 FF in your picture compared to the artificial plane silhouette. I always wondered why the MiG-29 plane silhouette was 2 degrees “higher.” Perhaps this is the more correct version, and would make some sense with the crosshairs as they would be aligned with the missile axis/x in the reticle/Phi0 mode. Might also explain why when we center the circle gimbal angle symbol in IRST lock the target is still slightly high. Imteresting catch. I wonder what is the truth. Might want to just record a track anyways. I would do a high speed run at low altitude over the ocean with low fuel set to infinite fuel, this will mean you need the least AOA to maintain flight. The angle with the horizon while firing the gun will prove in a track the angles we see. Sounds needless, but a track is the sure way to get a bug looked at here Edited Saturday at 06:40 AM by AeriaGloria Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
Lixma 06 Posted Saturday at 02:34 PM Author Posted Saturday at 02:34 PM (edited) Couple of low level, low fuel runs. FC Mig-29 FF Mig-29 Comparing the FF and FC HUD symbology during level flight with matched horizon. The new FF's HUD symbology is angled lower in the glass than the FC version. This might be the reason we're seeing the guns aim high, and the AG pipper (being an element calculated in reference to the outside world rather than against whatever else is displayed on the HUD) obscured by the aircraft datum. Interesting to note; the 'reticle' is perfectly zeroed with the guns. Edited Saturday at 02:39 PM by Lixma 06
Lixma 06 Posted Saturday at 06:36 PM Author Posted Saturday at 06:36 PM (edited) Couple of extra vids - this time showing AoA of each aircraft at full speed - both are 0.1° FC Mig-29 FF Mig-29 And these are the relevant HUD displays (FC on left) The FC Mig-29's aircraft datum is perfectly aligned with the horizon; the FF's sits well below the horizon. As a result the A-G pipper is obscured by the aircraft datum. By design or a bug? e: If the FF Mig-29's HUD symbology is in fact being displayed too low then raising it might also cure another issue :- having to lean forward over the HUD just to see the CCRP pipper.
