In OPT mode (Air-2-Ground) with guns the pipper is obscured by the vertical element of the aircraft datum on the HUD.

In fact the only time the A-G pipper becomes fully visible is during a Stuka-like 4G pull-up(!) which doesn't seem right.

This video is a comparison showing how the FF Mig-29 is apparently 'shooting high' compared to the FC version.

As you can see the FC Mig's guns are zeroed on the centreline, while the FF's are zeroed on the top of the aircraft datum.

Might this explain why the FF's A-G pipper is in such a weird position?

Realistic?

...or needs some tuning?

You still sort of atleast see where the pipper is. I have a feeling it might be correct, I’ll do a test.

One of the differences between FC3 MiG-29 and Su-27 was about this, the FC3 Su-27 boresight is where it is for the MiG-29 FF in your picture compared to the artificial plane silhouette. I always wondered why the MiG-29 plane silhouette was 2 degrees “higher.” Perhaps this is the more correct version, and would make some sense with the crosshairs as they would be aligned with the missile axis/x in the reticle/Phi0 mode.

Might also explain why when we center the circle gimbal angle symbol in IRST lock the target is still slightly high.

Imteresting catch. I wonder what is the truth. Might want to just record a track anyways. I would do a high speed run at low altitude over the ocean with low fuel set to infinite fuel, this will mean you need the least AOA to maintain flight. The angle with the horizon while firing the gun will prove in a track the angles we see. Sounds needless, but a track is the sure way to get a bug looked at here
