malley Posted Sunday at 03:15 PM Posted Sunday at 03:15 PM Hi all, Hopefully someone can help. I’m trying to get DCS running on Linux Mint 22.2, but haven’t had much luck so far. My setup: CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D GPU: RTX 3080 (12 GB) RAM: 32 GB NVIDIA Driver: 580.95.05 Storage: Plenty of free space I have DCS installed via Steam, and I’ve tried various versions of Proton and GE-Proton, but I keep getting the same result — a crash with a DX11Renderer error in Task Manager. The log shows this error: /shaders/ParticleSystem2/groundPuffComp.fx:902:20: E5017: Aborting due to not yet implemented feature: Non-direct structured resource store. Could this be an issue with the RTX 3080, or is there another way to fix this problem? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! PS I've attached the log file. dcs.log

SimHog Posted yesterday at 09:21 AM Posted yesterday at 09:21 AM (edited) I would recommend Bazzite as it's more of a "guarded" OS, and the devs focus on gaming, making the OS more gamer friendly over other distros. The best part of Bazzite is Steam is integrated very well and has Wine and Lutris ready to go out of the box. I am however running CachyOS because Bazzite was too well locked down at the kernel level, and I needed some VM and development tools installed which wouldn't install on Bazzite. But for just gaming and general tools like word processing, art, streaming etc it's great imo. Just note, on both Bazzite and CachyOS, I found if I had lot of my modules installed, the main menu will stutter after loading. It would stutter for a couple of minutes and I haven't found explanation as to why, but it settles and DCS then runs flawlessly. Edit: Having thought about it, I might actually go back to Bazzite as it is a REALLY user friendly OS Edited yesterday at 10:17 AM by SimHog AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D @4.2Ghz | MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk | ADATA XPG 64GB 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 | Team Cardea A440 Pro M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD 2TB | Sapphire NITRO+ RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X| PIMAX Crystal Light | WinWing HOTAS and Rudders | Linux - CachyOS v6.17.6-2

I'd say to take Nobara (KDE or Gnome, as you prefer) for a spin. It's as close as “Bazzite without restrictions” as it gets right now. It's mutable Fedora base (meaning you can install everything with dnf). It comes with the same game packages and optimizations (Proton GE, DXVK, OBS, MangoHUD, codecs, etc). No crashes - you can tinker with the system, customize everything, compile, etc. More traditional, but equivalent in performance. In practice, “Nobara is what Bazzite would be if it were mutable.” It only lacks automatic rollback and atomic update (which you rarely need). Well I've been running Mint (XFCE) for a couple of years now and don't have any problems with my games apart this issue with DCS, seems to be failing with shaders.

Is your copy of DCS a native Steam build, or did you install the stand alone version of DCS using steam? SimHog Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) I wonder if this a Proton runner issue. Recent updates may have broken something maybe. Have you tried running DCS through Lutris? Edit ... I hate it when I'm right ... just received some kernel updates, now I'm getting the same issue I have stand-alone DCS and running it through Lutris. Thank anyway. 6 hours ago, SimHog said: I wonder if this a Proton runner issue. Recent updates may have broken something maybe. Have you tried running DCS through Lutris? Edit ...
