HeathenHedgehog Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago The helmet visor and NVGs are mutually exclusive, you can only mount one or the other. Therefore there is no reason to have separate button bindings for each, it just unnecessarily occupies another button. If we could please get a single control to "Toggle NVG/Visor" it would simplify matters and control schemes.
Phantom711 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) You mean JHMCS or the actual new visor feature? Because I had the same thought about that combination… So what I did, was to put „NVG toggle“ on the recce button in combination with a modifier. HeathenHedgehog Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago I mean the physical visor, the JHMCS display can toggle blanking with the recce switch (except with SA page SOI). Your solution is kind of makeshift implementation of what I'm asking, however there are times I want to simply show/hide the display quickly but keep the visor (daytime ops/combat) with the recce, and other times I want the visor up completely. I avoid modifiers in my controls for consistency and realism. Having a combined binding for the visor/goggles makes sense because it's just "flip the helmet mounted device up/down", one less binding to deal with but functionally identical.

I generally agree with your original premise (I can see ED arguing that "purists" want to be able to rotate both knobs even when one isn't doing anything). The work around I use for this which (sorta) gets away from immersion breaking is to set a button as a SWITCH modifier (rather than a press modifier that has to be held when you press the other button). In my case it's middle mouse button. Press it once at start of mission and it turns switch on and my visor up/down and brightness controls both switch to controlling NVG's. If I don't press it they are assigned JHMCS. Only have to do this once per mission (unless you change from NVG's to JHMCS) so not too distracting to do.

To clarify, I'm not asking to combine the HMD brightness knob and NVG gain controls, those should remain separate as they are in two different places. I am only asking to combine the physical raise/lower toggle commands for the HMD visor and NVG. I understand what you're saying with the switch modifiers, and that would still work if this is implemented, but I'm trying to simplify the control bindings, not add complexity.
