Couple quick HAD/HARM questions...

I've been re-reading the manual trying to pick up things I've missed the first few times around. The updated manual is excellent!

With HAD as SOI, and an emitter designated, TMS-right should step to different targets. This is not working. What am I missing?

Second question is of no importance: The F/A-18 in DCS can find and target Early Warning Radars with HARMs... the F-16 can't with either HAS or HAD. I suspect the F-16 implementation is more accurate. I'm just jealous. 😉

Thanks!

You can launch at an EWR but the missile won't track. I believe it shouldn't even show up in TOO (HAS) mode

Press TMS left (short) first to switch the to the SEAD DED page, then you can cycle targets with TMS right.  You can find the details on Page 434.

That's what I thought. The F-18 folks are able to find EWR's with "HAS", then slew the TGP to that point on the HUD, and then kill the EWR. The F-16 can't even see that. Based on what I've read, it seems that the F-16 implementation is correct, and the Hornet has a loophole. No biggie. Just jealous. I want the Viper to have a monopoly on the SEAD stuff. 🙂

Thanks! I'm finding so many great HOTAS functions. Seemingly insignificant until I found out where they're useful!

You can cycle targets?! I'm deeply ashamed to not know that/have missed that. Thank you. 🙏

Yup. Plus, if you SOI the HARM WPN page, you can step between the different emitters, there. Handy when running around on the deck.

Hornets do not have "HAS" capability.  In DCS you can use a HARM on the wing to figure out roughly where the radar is and use the HMD to designate that as a target which may not be true to IRL.  Once you fire all your HARM's you're blind other than the RWR.

This is what TOO mode is in the Hornet.

Ahh, guess I don't know my SEAD terminology well enough.  I associate that with the Viper pod.

Either the pod is finding the emitters, or you're using the weapon itself as a sensor. Viper has a pod and the weapon (HAS). Hornet just has the weapon (TOO).

HAS has nothing to do with the HTS pod. HAS = HARM-As-Sensor, and only uses the onboard seeker to locate emitters for Direct Attack (no lofting, just straight-line). The HTS pod uses the HAD page (HARM Attack Display) to send targeting commands to the missile.
