Pimax Crystal Super 57PPD-Lens defect or normal?

I am coming from the varjo aero-which had clear view for the entire lens- meaning there was no "sweet spot" or lens blurring near the edges etc. It was clear from end to end.

I just got the Pimax Crystal Super 57PPD and the detail is amazing , but the image begins to get blurry VERY quickly from center-super clear in center, but just above center images begin to blur and slight color separation occurs. Is this normal? I've had a number of other VR units and remember that you had to be very careful about placement of the headset or you'd get blurring. But this blurring seems 'off'-It feels that further towards the edges (after the initial blurry "spot") it gets clearer.

Is this a lens defect? or normal behavior? If it's normal, I think I'd go back to the Varjo.

Sounds like a similar experience to me with the 57PPD.

If you contact Pimax support and ask for the 50PPD module to be sent you can swap them out and you may find that the 50PPD module is much better.

That is what I did and now I'm keeping the super with the 50PPD.

I have the 50ppd version and while im not sure if its better than what you are describing I believe that the sweet spot is not excellent I would rate it 7/10

I don't know if  your 57 ppd module is normal. But, several reviews has mentioned/complained about the small FOV and small edge to edge clarity of the 57 Super. This one being the latest review:

I am happy to say that my 50ppd Super has great FOV and edge to edge clarity. And, when you get above 50ppd one has to consider if going to 57 ppd might not be worth it if you sacrifice so much of what makes VR great in flight sims, by that I mean good FOV and the ability to scan instruments and the view with your eyes without looking directly at everything all the time. People prioritize differently I guess... But I can assure you, you are not missing out on details and claritiy with the 50 ppd module. The level of clarity is so good, and you get to have the great FOV and edge to edge clarity too. Maybe check with Pimax if it is possible to swap modules?

I agree with this, and I have the Super 50ppd UltraWide.  I swapped for the Super 57ppd, and I'm glad I did.  I primarily fly my combat in Falcon BMS v4.38, and the clarity is amazing in both that and DCS, which I use for joyrides.
