Ramstein Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I have been trying to figure out how to setup a FAC (Forward Air Control) radio signal so that I can setup a forward command ground post, that would send out a radio signal that would be picked up by my VHF radio, and Abris. I could then follow the radio signal to the forward command post, in the field to provide CAS (Close Air Suuport) to the area near the forward ground troops. I have no problem finding the the Radio beacons to the fixed airbases. They show up on both the Abris and the needle on the HIS (guage) when the radio is set to ADF. I have been reading the manual, taking notes, and trying to test out maps, in which I place the mobile forward command posts using troops and static command post vehicles with Cooms, towers, and whatever else I can find that might make this work. Will this all work or do I have to rely on wingmen to provide the information from the battlefield? Also, using the radio for music on the Maykop City map and using the frequency works, but assigning other frequencies to other cities has not been working for me. I want to be able to slew the radio to use it has a VDF, VHF, beacon in other cities, towns, villages.. on other maps.. I know about taking the lattitude and Longitude coordinates and using the math formula to convert it to decimal numbers. Also that the many of the radio frequency numbers are out of the range that can be entered on the VHF radio dial. Changing some numbers in the LUA files to make this stuff work does not always work for me either. I took the location numbers, convereted them to decimal and entered it in in a LUA file. My radio could not find the station I created and entered. I think it was the beacons.lua file. I hope i did not mix up the files and info ( I will correect any confusing info, if my brain can sort this all out  ..) In a nutshell, taking all these scraps or info and trying to make it work has been a long exercise and high learning curve. I am still trying to make it all work. The FAC, forward operating controller radio signal, beacon, thingy... being my main focus. I want to be able to look at my HSI needle(s) and Abris and see the marks and indicators point me to the area on the map I want to go and support. Also, follow the signal and beacon to Farps and Airbases. I am not interested in the music, but being able to slew the signal from one radion to the other. R-800, R-828, VHF-2. miguez Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hi Ramstein, ADFs are ground beacons, you cannot assign them to helicopters. Read up on it here.
