fredm2002 Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Hello All, I have played DCS BS with no problems, and hadn't played for a month since, being a teacher, had to prepare for classes, etc etc etc. Fired it up tonight for a quick mission and was told that I had made changes to my machine and had to reactivate. This is all I have done: 1. INstalled NIS 2010 2. Windows Updates 3. ATI 9.9 Drivers for Video and TV Card. 4. Bought a Western Digital 320 USB hard drive and plugged it in. It said that I now have six. I do not believe that any of these things should have caused a need to reactivate. There is no error log, as haven't had problems since the patch but had played it for hours afterwards. If you need more info, please let me know. fredm2002 Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 Just remembered that I added a Bluetooth radio device, since I last played it. Sorry about that Intel i7-12700K, 128 GB RAM, 3080 TI, 26 TB of Storage
Boulund Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I've had similar problems with reinstalling my bluetooth radio device (and also with other things installing network devices on my computer, in this particular incident it was vmware-stuff). Keep track on your point build-up when adding or removing devices and/or hardware. I've lost several activations this way http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=43187 Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. fredm2002 Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 I truly understand that they have to protect their investment, and having worked in business and education I fully support their right. With that being said, Adding a bluetooth radio is not a major change. They are most likely, as mine, to be USB. Updating your anti-virus, and windows patches should never, ever cause a user to reactivate, IMHO. I think that when you have added something that triggers a reactivation, then it should tell you what hardware has changed. If I had been told it was the USB dongle for the bluetooth, I would have exited out of the program, unplugged it, and restarted BS. If users have to be limited to changes to our machines, then ED and SF should have to meet us half-way and tell us what changes it has detected. Not trying to start an arguement, and I have supported ED all the way, buying LOMAC (three times) and BS and look forward to A-10. I think they have as much responsibility to us, as we do to them. Thanks You!!! :) Fred M> Intel i7-12700K, 128 GB RAM, 3080 TI, 26 TB of Storage
Boulund Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 That is in fact a great idea. I've lost several activations to hardware changes but never once been informed why. Unfortunately I've got the feeling that if you try to start the application once with too much hardware changes it lost right there and then, regardless if you try to change your hardware back the way it was. Not entirely sure on this one as I haven't really done any real testing of this (who's up for the task of losing all their activations? ;)) Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1.
