Hi folks,

Sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but nothing came up. I tried to go online today, but it just wasn't happening. I was on the Warhawks teamspeak and WH_Toast really helped but I still couldn't get it to work. I'm pretty new to online gaming in general and have a very limted knowlege of networks and IP's etc etc so please be gentle. I'll try to give as detailed a description as I can.

I am connected via a wireless router and that router automatically assigns a dynamic IP to my PC. Think this may be what the servers aren't liking. I can go through the hassle of re setting ports and assigning a static IP but there must be a way around this. Surely there must be a way to connect with dynamic IP's through a router, can anyone help?

Thanks to WH_Toast for being so helpful anyway :).

Whiskey.

EDIT: I managed to connect to a server just now. What was odd about it was that it was the only server in the list that had a name and a description, I only see the others as IP's and there's no info on them, these are the ones I can't connect to. What could this be a symptom of?

Could be anything, i noticed though that on occasion i have the same problem whit only ip's showing up on the list.

Usually pressing the New Search button located on the lower right of the screen fixes this. Having an dynamic IP on the computer behind your router shouldn't be a problem.

WJ, there are - at least 50% of the community use the same configuration as you. So in your case it must be a configuration thingy I guess.

Local Windows Firewall.

You need to ensure that your local Windows Firewall allows DCS.exe to communicate with the outside world.

You can normally change this by using the Control Panel Firewall applet.

Or you can use the Administrative Tools Advanced Firewall.

(Depends on your OS and configuration).

Your router's "firewall"

You need to ensure that your router also allows the traffic. YOu may need to allow 10308 TCP/UDP. In some cases I had to open 10307 TCP/UDP as well (I think this may be when you are hosting a game).

Further on I can only speculate on your Routers config and the phrasing they are using to allow you to define such things.

Most of todays routers have a webconsole - and you need to log on to it.

(It's most like to be the IP-adress of your Windows PC IP-configuration "Gateway", so if gateway is supposed to be 192.168.1.1 - then thats your router).

You must then find a place where keyword such as "Firewall", "Port", "NAT" may occur.

Next - most likely you need to add a "new service" or "port opening" for your home PC on the router, and call it "DCS".

You then need to add the ports and protocols I described above.

I hope this can give you a few ideas on where to start. :)

Panzertard, thanks so much! I think I will be able to fix the problem using your advice. My windows firewall is set up as per your post, so I think it must be the router firewall that is the problem. I will change the settings and see what happens. Thanks so much :D!

Are you setting the filter "source" to "Internet"? or perhaps you have it set at "history"? you should have set to internet.

(this filter is in the top of the multiplayer server list)

Oh, I just noticed your edit in the OP:

What distiler mentions makes sense in that situation.
