topol-m Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Looks nice but I5-750 based system although a little more expensive (some 30$ more for the CPU, and probably 30$ for Motherboard) would be better. I5 has better performance. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
XLR8 Posted November 23, 2009 Author Posted November 23, 2009 I did some cpu comparisons and the i5 and i7 have higher performance. But cost more (budget). The bad thing I see with th i5 is expandability,it having the 1156 socket. I could only find 1 processor. With the AM3 socket I have a few upgrades.
EtherealN Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 A point there is that the 1156 socket is new. I know of three processors using it (including two using the i7 brand name), and this should be likely to grow since the socket is new. However, AM3 is also relatively new, but in the case of 1156 it's actually new in the sense of just a couple months. On CD/DVD-RW the only "help" I can say is that generally speaking cheaper is good enough. It's not exactly bleeding-edge technology so it'll be cheap. On the system in my signature I basically just unhooked the drive from an older computer and used that, with good results. GaryIKILLYOU Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 (edited) I have that same CPU and its AMAZING, and quite frankly even if the I5 has better preformance... woopie its such a small margin that it doesn't really matter... A friend of mine has an I5 with 2.6 Ghz clock speed and his runs LO worse than mine and he paid over a thousand dollars for his rig, while I paid roughly $700.... :) also I would recomend the HD5770 over the 5750 IMHO its not that much more expensive over the 5750 and its better... (cause i have one:smartass:) And get 8 gigs b/c Win 7 uses 3/4 of a gig of RAM...(I know this cause I have it;)) I should have been more specific... I have ordered the HD 5770... but I have played with it on my system (I have nerdy friends) and it runs gr8, part of the reason I bought it... Pilotasso Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 LOL ok gary you have a badass machine, how can we touch that? :D .
XLR8 Posted November 23, 2009 Author Posted November 23, 2009 My first 2 PCs had AMDs in them. Then I bought 2 Dells. One had a dual core and the other had a C2D. Both good. From what I can see from bench marks the i5 is barly more powerfull than the cpu I picked out. i would love the i7 but intel, is realy proud of them. This is my first build, and I am sure I will upgrade or build another.
GaryIKILLYOU Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 LOL ok gary you have a badass machine, how can we touch that? :D ;) was that a bit of sarcasm I hear? Vekkinho Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 So Gary, what've you got?! Dunno, I got me a Q9550 6 or 7 months ago, but nowadays on-line shops look pretty empty, perhaps 'cause of the crisis there's like 2 or 3 CPUs in stock where there was 60+ a year ago. Honestly, if I was looking for a new rig I'd be stuck to low budget versions of many electronics. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GaryIKILLYOU Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Well I'll put it in my sig as soon as I can but here goes... CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2Ghz MoBo: Zotac nForce socket AM2+ SLI ready MoBo (I have shoppers regret on that one, should have gone ATI chipset :/) RAM: 8 Gigs Patriot Viper series DDR2 4-4-4-12 Latency with 800Mhz clock speed GPU: Being shipped right now ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 gig GDDR5 PSU: Coolmax 750 watt SLI ready Monitor: REAAALLLLYYYY OLD HP CRT 15 in. (But I lovez it alot:joystick:) Keyboard: Same one that came with the HP CRT ;) Mouse: Logitech something FlightStick: Saitek X-52 Pro Oh and a very loving mother  And a case that a friend of mine gave to me for my 13th B-day that I wouldn't replace unless I absolutely had to. And for the shops I usually go to TigerDirect... They used to have a ton of C2D and C2Q (which I was going to get but then they started disappearing.) I think its b/c Intel is weaning us of the Core2 series and pushing the I5 and I7 boards and CPU's... but lets wait and see. I agree on the C2D and C2Q cpus going out.
Vekkinho Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Gary, with 15" CRT you probably run DCS and FC in 1028*768. That surely contributes to great FPS doesn't it?! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GaryIKILLYOU Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Well without the HD 5770 and the extra 4 gigs of RAM ( I got the HD 5770 and it was DOA:cry:, RAM is on the way now) Rightnow with the 4 gigs ddr2 and the Phenom II X4 955 BE I get an average of 40+ FPS on all high settings WITHOUT the vid card on LO:FC ver 1.12b. FSX I average 30, but on medium and some low settings. I don't have DCS:BS so I can't say much on that, but I'm guessing I'll get higher FPS b/c it runs better so I hear. My real goal is to be able to play ARMA 2 Maxed out with a nice frame rate. :joystick::joystick::joystick::thumbup: My Specs:Win 10 Pro 64bit/ i7 6770K 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4/ GTX 1070 SC/Samsung SSD Warthog Stick/TWCS Throttle/TrackIR 5
