After just getting trackir 5 in place of 3 I was we'll excited...for smooth looking round my black shark....

But no... Not really....

The 3 always seemed too sensitive and I never used it.

The 5 software seems really trick compared to the old one but I'm obviously not setting it up properly.

I'm using the trackclip on a hat is there better tracking with the pro clip?

Although 25 quid for addon now seems we'll expensive!

Any tips for setting it up?

Oh and had to turn christmas tree lights off as it picked them up across the room even after adjusting - wifey we'll happy!

( Have checked its not picking up anything else)

Not on a blackberry! ;)

Thanks appreciate it - thought I'd ask while I'm out. Will check out that thread soon as I get back.

Much appreciated ;)

LOL :crash:

Okay, in this case, disregard "always" from my statement ;)

If you have further questions feel free to post them here. I can send you some sample-files, but it's to a large extend a matter of personal taste and positioning of the TIR and you in relation to that, to work out a setup that servers you best.

I think it really depends on your environment. I started with a trackclip pro, but it broke. In the mean time I started using the basic trackclip with a hat and realized it seemed to work better for me. As a bonus I don't have to wear a headset (have surround speakers on the pit).

A couple things I've found over the last few months of having the TrackIR.

1) Make sure you open up the TrackIR software and open camera view. Always easiest to maximize the view removing the options dialogs while doing this.

2) Move the camera around until your green dots from the trackclip are in the center.

3) If you have lots of red or green dot's that are not your trackclip look for the source of them and eliminate them if possible (aka the xmas lights).

4) If other things are reflecting the IR you can adjust the intensity of the ir transmitters on the camera (not at pit computer so I don't remember exactly how).

5) Check in camera view how far you can tilt and turn your head before the dots turn from green to red. When the dot's turn red is when the TrackIR goes wonky.

6) Adjust the tilt (by moving the little legs in and out) or move the TrackIR camera until you get the best range of movement with out one of your tracking dot's going red.

After doing this mine works great! A also find coping the smooth or one to one profiles works best with flying. Just move the line up on the one to one so you can turn farther. I did need to add some dead zone to the roll axis or the view tilted to much.

Hope that helps!

in the middle of the trackhat there is a silver lip... this picks up on the camera as shown in the picture....

will this `red` dot be affecting the tracking ?

it seems ok in the software and then goes a little crazy in DCS after looking around.

Ive disabled roll because I dont want to use that... and will probably put the Z axis to zoom in and out on the cougar throttle if its easier.

at the moment it isnt much difference to the Trackir 3 I had.... got to be setup wrong.

Just put a strip of non-reflective tape over it.

The TrackIR analyzes reflections depending on size. Depending on the angle and other heatsources, it is possible that the original reflectors make a smaller reflection than the clip in the middle, resulting in jittering or your TIR going wild.

Just a personal observation: I wouldn't bend the arms with the reflectors. It seems you bent down the two front reflectors to fit your hat, but that can have negative side-effects. Considering the reflectors themselves are rounded around a vertical axis, you have now 3 different reflection-effects, one for each reflector depending on your head-angles. In the worst case, one of your reflectors might reflect at maximum brightness, while at least one might be pointed in such a way that the reflection falls below the minimum size.

In combination with the additional reflector in the middle, this might be causing you a lot of troubles.

AWESOME!

Im using the original trackhat that I got with my trackir 3.... seems a bit strange that the extra bit on the front of the cap was throwing it off ---- quick colour in with black marker pen has fixed it.....

and the bend was always on the cap - straightened it and a lot better.

Just got to set it up a bit more - am able to pan round real smooth but when I look down bottom left towards AUTO turn buttons and zoom in it kinda looses the clip......

was just about to sell it on !

thanks a lot - appreciate it.

had a play - works well.... left and right up down works well.... just trying to sort out the Z axis so I dont have to lean forward so much .... I gather I can setup each axis individually by changing just the Z axis curves ?

Nice.

Yes, the hat is from the single-tracking. I'd definitely cover it with something.

In the beginning I had the problem that my TIR lost my head's position when looking down, looking up was nice though. This happens because the field of view extended well above my head, but I the reflection was already faint when looking only a bit down - a real PITA for BlackShark.

After bending the reflectors up as a temporary fix, I came up with an alternative:

Reflective_Bike_Spokes_Reflective_Bicycle_Spokes_reflector_spoke_for_bicycle.jpg

These flexible plastic-tubes are covered with the same reflector of the TrackIR-Clips. I cut them in 2.5cm parts and simply stuck them over the reflectors. Works perfect even on extreme angles.

Edit: Check out this site for a UK-distributor. I think these are the same as posted above, just from 3M, not no-name as in the picture I posted. ;)

This sounds a good solution..... can you make a fix to stop 'wife' laughing at 'silly cap with thing on' while I play 'Helicopter Games' ...... shhhheeesh will they ever learn ?! ;)

Thanks for your help.

LOL - wish I had a solution for THAT problem ;)

after having a go for a while now (wife gone out so no laughing ;) )

ive still got this look down issue.... If I increase the speed slider it looks down better but too fast... if I decrease the slider then it looses tracking.

Seems ok in the trackir software... just seems to be a block in DCS cockpit.

Best thing is to calibrate the positioning and angles of the TrackIR sensor while checking the camera-FOV and moving your head around. If you start in the lower area, you have to change positioning accordingly. Most likely it will help if you don't pull the cap too far down on your forehead, so the camera has a better view on the reflectors. For the camera it looks like you are looking up all the time, but that gives you some room for looking down in reality ;)
