Gloomshadow Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Hey guys, I'm still learning the Black Shark. Fantastic sim by the way. I've been experiencing a problem with my number 1 engine suddenly failing mid flight. This occurs at an altitude above 2k feet at a speed less than 200kph ias. I've been closely monitoring my rpm and it is within normal operating parameters when this occurs. My collective is at what I think is a normal position, without any abnormal cyclic use or maneuvers. There are no prior warnings. What could be causing this?
slug88 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 My guess is engine icing. Make sure to enable engine anti-ice and rotor anti-ice and pitot heaters when flying at high altitudes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
159th_Falcon Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Nope no icing, you get ekran message telling to turn on rotor anti ice then. Cant be dust either because of the altitude. No idea what it can be other then a random engine failure or your out of fuel. Did it happen once or does it happen over and over again? If the last is true please post an .trk file, this will make it easier to identify the problem. BTW, how new is new? How do you control your collective? There have been cases in which people used their collective to throttle the engines. Which should not be done. Gloomshadow Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 I'm thinking that it may be a turbine overspeed which is causing the governor to shut it down. What causes this to occur?
EtherealN Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Gloom, next time this happens, make sure to save a track file. Makes it a lot easier to look at. :) I actually suspect ice even without ice warning, though. That has happened to me once. But that requires the question of altitude and temperature - Gloom, when you are saying 2000 feet, are you certain that this is feet? The standard on the Ka-50 is to display altitude in meters (since russians use proper units :P ) and if you are at 2k meters then you might actually be at risk of icing conditions even if you have a few degrees positive on the ground. Frederf Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 EKRAN doesn't know if there's ice, only what the temperature is to make a guess if there might be ice. What throttle position were you at? What EGT were the engines? Do you have a track? If you have a problem the game automatically saves a LastMission.trk file for you so there's no need to think ahead.
Panzertard Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Also make sure that you; - didnt map "throttle"-channel to your Hotas, you want to map the "collective" channel instead. - let the EGT control the Engine revolutions. - Use RCTRL+ENTER to monitor your controls input (collective) while you're flying. ... and finally a track to show the issue live. :) The mind is like a parachute.
