4+4 is actually a realistic corridor, right out of the Air Defense Field Manual ;)

You have all your patriots pointing down the threat axis - enemy aircraft have to go around this and your own aircraft can help prevent this if and when necessary. You can present a very challenging SAM corridor if you build it properly. With any luck, it will be extra dangerous come FC2.

I don't really understand your corridor thingy...

SAM (GBAD) normally is used for asset / point defense, and the deployment layout depends on the size of that asset, geographical consideration, threat direction and the threat that you expect.

Again, corridors are used for safeguarding friendly aircraft, not to shoot down enemies.

I guess I have to go looking for the FM for both of you, so that we're on the same page (Or at least, so that I'm understood). :P

No, I'm not claiming you don't know anything, I'm just annoyed at having to do more work :D

I'll try to check where I have this stuff tonight - golfsierra, I imagine we're just using the word corridor differently.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

Diagrams please? I always thought SAMs could fire in any direction...

The Patriot AN/MPQ-53/65 Radar has a 120 degree FOV only, ie 60 Degrees Left and Sixty Degrees Right, evident from the Flat Phased Array Radar. So it's Important to point/align it in the Right direction especially in LockOn where SAM Battalions/Emplacements are not properly represented/portrayed in Missions.

Found something unclas on the web to better explain it.

Inside the corridor, own aircraft (fixed and rotary wing) move from A to B and vice versa, and SAM won't engage them (WCS WT).

Outside this corridor, generally spoken SAM would engage everything not positively identified as friend (IFF)

In reality, it is somewhat more complicated but that should give you the right idea of what the purpose of a corridor is in terms of military airspace structure.

I'm trying a slightly different method of learning to control the Su-25T: flying the IL-2.

It's sort of working, already getting along with the tricks of ground-attack. Oh, I got a confirmed 110 and a damaged one :D!
