Russian traslation

I was wondering if any one can translate a bit of russian for me. In the game STALKER you hear a phrasse that sounds something like "brakey brakey". That's probly not right. It's some kind of a taunt I'm guessing. And also one that sounds like "brushni brow."

Actually a free way to learn a bit of russian would be nice. At least enough to get the jist of what I'm hearing. Seems like more and more of my games are in russina these days.

Prophet, you don't have it written in cyrillic somewhere? Russian is particularly difficult to transliterate from the spoken if you're not familiar with the language.

No, it's just spoken in game. Not writen anywhere that I know of.

That "brakey" thing maybe something closer to "vragi"? It means "enemies" then.

 

"brushni brow." leaves me at loss :) Try to use phonetic system to transliterate Russian words. And yes, written Cyrillic would be absolutely easy to translate for you. :)

On the topic of learning the Russian language I thought the combo English/Russian keyboard was interesting. Can you elaborate on your comment please, CEPEGA? Was I too far off topic?

Looking at the picture of the combo keyboard, is the layout of the Cyrillic letters in anyway linked to the sound of them when pronounced being the same or similar as the sound of the Latin letters? Or is it random?

Not "random", but different.

 

Enough to confuse you a lot. The only Latin letters that hold their sound are (some are slightly different, but nothing really far):

 

A, E (not Ë, however), O, C (sounds like "S", not "K") K, M, T.

 

The rest will only confuse you if you think in your language, but hey, "You must think in Russian!" :D

Its tuff to understand if you don't know the language, you think you clearly heard what they said but no, you hear what you hear and its definetly not what they said... When I was a kid (85-89)I was singing english songs, or I thought I was, exactly as they sing... About 10 years latter when I've learned english I understand what sort of english I was singing...

It was non existing language, so, what you hear its not what they say... Some video track would help.

Most modern games have subtitles you can turn on. However dialog that has nothing to do with the plot is sometimes omitted. So there is a decent chance that tactical voice commands the AI gives to one another might not be included. I do remember the settings for Crysis... on the normal difficulty settings the North Koreans spoke English, but on Hard they actually speak Korean.

Lucas, Gigz-on - Thanks for that. I'd guessed that probably it was kinda random. Maybe one day I'll sign up for a night class and try to learn Russian. Heard the "Nagging Nadia" warnings from Lockon so many times now that I mostly know what they are.

So the cyrillic keys are just placed on their randomly? Hmm. Well, it was a nice gesture of them anyway. It's silly, but I use it when I fly my Ka heheh.

Well, it's not that they are placed there "randomly", AFAIK. More that the scheme just isn't related to QWERTY, just like DVORAK keyboards aren't a random redistribution of the QWERTY scheme. So it's "random" in the sense that it's not related to the latin keys, but what made you think the latin keys were the standard anyhow? Cyrillic has older roots than latin. ;)
