msalama Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Hallo ladies and gents, Many moons ago I whipped up this small and simple test mission with 4 Mi-24s attacking a lightly defended airfield to check out a couple of things concerning the AI and its conduct in this fine simulator. Ran it again just now and noticed something weird happening: This fellow was hit, and consequently executed a flawless forced landing. Nothing wrong with that, and excellent pilotage all around IMHO - it's just that he's floating in thin air with his engines stopped thinking he's safely back down! A real Wile E. Coyote, this guy :D The AF in question is Adler-Moldovka and there're no human-controlled units in the mission, just AI. Any ideas as to what might cause this strange behaviour? PS. I've no idea if this is reproducible. The game, however, is patched up to v1.01. Edited January 30, 2010 by msalama 1 The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
EtherealN Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I've actually seen similar stuff happen with airborne 23mm AAA batteries, but never managed to reproduce it. :( If you share your miz file for that mission it might be easier to test for it though. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

msalama Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Because its the queen of Helis.. Oh yes Sir, the Hind is indeed the most lethal-but-sexy killer dragonfly of a helo ever invented. I would've actually preferred her over the Ka-50 anytime as our 1st DCS flyable myself, together with an Afghanistan map of course ;) But as regards the problem here, well, I think it's not her but the terrain that's the culprit... EtherealN Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Weird, since when I downloaded it it was a mission. Remember that miz files are actually archives. msalama Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 when i down load it its a rar file with no mission in it.. Hmmm... Could be there's something wrong with the way your browser handles compressed archives, since the uploaded version seems to work just the same as the original here as well. 71st_Mastiff Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 might be a bug in the handling of the games handling of the miz files. cause I'm using the same browser for 3 yeas and never had any issue before.. try uploading the miz file directly to ED? msalama Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) Hey, just remembered something. This levitating fellow didn't land on that exact spot where he's floating in the picture, but actually settled on a hilltop and then rolled down there. Kind of makes me think there's a bug in the algorithm defining inclinations and how they relate to the visual in-game ground level - well just guessing here of course, so it may as well be something else altogether... But this FYI anyway, and please report back if you find anything :) Edited February 4, 2010 by msalama The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

msalama Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 i watched it and it didn't do anything wrong... Thanks for checking it out. Yah, the bug probably only shows up under certain rare circumstances which makes it kind of hard to nail down, but if someone finds a way of consistently reproducing the problem then please let us in on the know :) Thanks again m8 and happy landings!
