TouchPal with Windows 7

I set up everything as explained, and the ABRIS and shkval show up like they are supposed to when I start Blackshark. It looks nice! However, I can't get the program itself (TouchPal 0.4) to work with Windows 7. I tried the different compatibility modes, but no luck. I did a search and it came up with 3 very long threads.

 

Does anyone have it working with Windows 7? It immediately comes up and says "has stopped working". I really hope to get this working because it looks very nice.

No responses at all? I've tried TouchPal on 4 different computers and it doesn't run at all. Am I overlooking something little? According to the directions, all you do is extract the folder with TouchPal 0.4 and run the .exe file. It must be more to it than that, because I tried it on 4 computers and get the same "TouchPal has stopped working".

ummm, I did this a while ago on my xp machine but I think I got that error at one point. I think it was because I didnt have the files in the right directory. Read the directions on how to install again. I think I had to place it in the C:\ directory and maybe even create a new folder someplace. Im not at my desktop so I'm going off memory here.

The installation just says to extract the folder to any location. I tried it in different locations, but no luck. I tried on 4 computers...3 had Windows 7 and 1 had Vista. Each computer has totally different hardware. I have a touchbuddy profile that works, but it would be really nice to have TouchPal. It is the holy grail for me.

I found the solution just in case anybody else ever encounters this problem. You MUST put it in the "My Documents" folder inside a folder called "TouchPal". As soon as I did this, it works! Thanks luckybob for the heads-up.

:) I knew it was somethink like that. Also, it seems to only go to the second monitor when you have I set to the right of your main one. I tried to set my second monitor to the left in windows display properties and it didn't work

Hence the step 2 in the Touchapl thread which tell you to do exactly that with the second zip file. :doh: This is one of the most common "issues" I've seen written up and the error message is not very friendly.

You can place the touchpal window anywhere you want. Just edit the touchpal.xml file and modify the X and Y values under the Layout section of the file.

Ahh I assumed it didn't work with win7, I tested it before bothering with config just to see if it would open! I may try it again.

 

One question though - do you think if I fiddle with the configuration files I could modify it to use a 1280x1024 size screen fully?

I'm using TouchPal with Windows 7 x64...

It runs perfectly...
