best to learn all the keyboard inputs first i think. then program your stick as you see fit based upon what u want to hand. there are read me and document files in your lockon install. best start learning.

You should start with ground attack aircraft, A-10 I would suggest, as fighters with all their radar modes and tactics can be very overwhelming. If you just sit down, study and try it, you will soon realise that it's not so complex after all. Check out the training tutorials in game and from Flanker Training.

For controls, you could check out here what kind of control setups people have:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=42060

In general, you should have, trim, firing and weapon control functions on your stick. Just as in IL-2.

A HOTAS system is very helpful. If/when you get one, try to assign the same functions to it as the real fighters have.

Also check out the Flaming Cliffs expansion. Maybe you should wait for a while though because the 2.0 version will be released very soon (hopefully).

In order to shoot, on most planes you should first get LA (Launch Authorized). In order to get LA on A2A missile for example, you should find the bandit with the radar (or EOS on russian frames) Lock him, and wait for him to get inside weapons envelope zone. A short LA(or ПР on the russian version of the game) will appear on your HUD, and you can then fire your missile.

Want to learn how to do the above things? Start with the game's manual located in your main Lockon folder\Docs...

This sim also has two fire buttons. At least in American planes you need to press "Release Weapon" to shoot rockets, Maverick etc and "Fire(?)" button to shoot guns. I haven't played this for a while so I don't remember how it was exactly but it was a bit different for Russian planes. Well, if you don't hear BOOOM, try the other button. :)

Sorry for digging up a thread, but I guess it's better to use an older one than starting new.

I read in this topic that A10 is a good plane to start if you don't have any LOMAC (or fixed wing) sim experience?

I have only experience with Black Shark, and there are so many airplanes in FC2, any recommendations which to start with? A10?
