159th_Falcon Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) Ok 1st of all welcome to the forums. 2nd, Aircraft and Helicopters fly very different and you should not try to make comparisons. 3rd, the flight controls and names used to describe things are different, for a reason, because they work different as opposed to an aircraft. So, how does an Helicopter fly? 1st off the cockpit whit the flight controls. (take a look at the image) Lets start whit the pedals (B), these are used to control a helicopters Yaw (rotation about the helicopter his vertical axis,) Then there is the Cyclic (A), this is used to control a helicopters Pitch and Roll (pitch is forward and backward movement, Roll is SIDEWAYS movement) Last, there is the Collective ©, this is used to move the helicopter along its Vertical axis. (climb and decent.) To make a helicopter fly you ALWAYS need to combine the above mentioned controls. Especially while turning, a helicopter wont turn whit out using the pedals. (unless you bank it more the 70 or so degrees but then strange things start to happen when you lvl off again) Then there are the throttle levers (D), these control the helicopters power SETTING, while flying you should have those set at AUTO you wont actively use them in flight. (image taken from a paper i had to make for school, subject was the propulsion of a helicopter:D if you want to know more about how a helicopter fly's let me know, but it might get a little complicated then. 159th_Falcon Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 thanks dude so is it woth buying? Depends on what your looking for. If your into VERY realistic simulators. In every aspect of the worth. Then its defineatly worth buying if ya ask me. Though you probably will need some time to learn flying this wonderful machine. If your looking for something just to fly a helicopter though, fast and easy, go look at something like microsoft flight simulator, but that's ONLY as real as it gets. And that's not very real to be honest. http://www.dynamicflight.com/ a lot of useful info about helicopters. including detailed explanations about there aerodynamics [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
MajkStone Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 This is *the* most realistic combat flight simulator (and probably just realistic flight simulator) created for the general public to date. It is extremely moddable, looks amazing, and has almost every detail modeled extremely accurately (IMO anyways). I had been waiting for a game like this since Jane's Longbow 2, and I love it :) -MajkStone [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
