Hey Guys

http://ace.wikkii.com/wiki/Features_of_ACE2#Missile_Guidance_Improvements

There are really great features there but .... the main problem is that after installing the mod on Arma 2 1.05 I found that the weapons accuracy is just terrible and really unrealistic.

Even when you are standing 2 meters from the wall and shoot on at you can see the bullet impact in impossible places.

I believe I am missing something and I am very curious if anyone besides me encounters this phenomenon???

What weapon? Did you use sights? Did you hold you breath? Were you standing or prone?

Shooting with handheld weapons, especially not from a prone position, is terribly inprecise and takes a lot of practise IRL. I have some experience (although not with a m16 or m4, but with the Glock 17 and STG77/Steyr AUG) and IMHO ACE2 is the best simulation i've ever seen, regarding the shooting behaviour of firearms.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Yes ... in prone position with M4A1 CCO holding my breath and using the sights trying to hit a big popup target from about 100 meters .

That consumes about 13 rounds until I actually hit the target.

Very strange IMHO … that is why I tend to think that I am doing something wrong ether with the actual shooting process or with the mod installation.

Brutally obvious case of FADE. Sorry

Make sure when installing the mod that you don't accidentally tamper with some game files, the game will recognize the changed files and secretly activate this nefarious copy protection that will make you really mad at the game and stop playing it completely =)

Strange. Wasn't it designed to get you hooked before making it unplayable? :)

They just didn't realize that not informing people that it is the copy protection doing this and not the game being bad gives the opposite effect... =)

Well I did change some files ...

So there goes the Modding era? :joystick:

Too bad they care about keeping the game appealing just until the second you buy the game.... after that the community can go to hell.

I have ACE2 installed properly with several amazing huge modifications - works great and no FADE here.

I am using Yoma Addon Sync app to install and keep my ARMA2 addons up to date.

Use Kelly's Heroes server in default Yoma Addon servers list to install and keep ACE2 updated. They always have latest beta version running.

No, actually the game is very moddable indeed! It is just important that one does not mess with game files. Mods are usually installed as such:

C:\ArmaIIdir\@MOD

That is, in a folder in the arma 2 directory that begins with an @-symbol. This way it is very easy to add or change mod-files (for example update them) either manually or using a tool (yoma addonsync, sixupdater) without messing with the standard game files.

The game is then started either with a shortcut containing this "-mod=@MOD1;@mod2" appended to the command line (just keep on adding for more mods), or using a launcher application (there are several on armaholic.com).

So what exactly is the best way to install this mod? I've yet to figure it out and sorta lost the ambition to figure it out.

The best way to install ACE2 is to use yoma addon sync IMO.

Here is a simple guide (that I totally copied from someone else;)):

Here's how I've learned how to keep my ACE 2 mod folders (@ACE, @ACEX, @ACEX_SM) up to date.

Download the latest version of the ArmA2 Addon Sync program.
http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/yoma-addonsync2009
Install it.
Run it.

Select "Settings" and point it to your ArmA2 directory and EXE.
There are a lot of other "rocket scientist" buttons and stuff on this page ... just ignore it
Select the "Favorite servers" tab and then the "New server" button. Plug one of these into the "Auto config URL" box:

http://www.kellys-heroes.eu/updater/ArmA2ACE-Repository/ArmA2ACE-Repo.7z

Select the "Import server" button.
If you like the server, select the "Save" button to make it one of your favorites.
Now select the "Download addons" tab and the "Check for addons" button.
This graphically shows you what you need, what you don't need, and what you can delete.

Finally you can select the "Download addons" button.

PS.
I know this is a lot of BS but the entire ACE 2 mod is about 1.25 Gig so it makes sense since it is being updated daily.
Running Addon Sync daily and hitting the "Download addons" button only takes a minute.
PPS.
I recommend ACEX (1 GB) for the M16/Aimpoint Scope model alone
