NaturalPoint - Jason Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 So, while we wait for the LOMAC 1.1 boxed version let's play name the fighter planes! I took this from Google Maps new Keyhole Satellite feature. It's Nellis AFB sometime in the past 2 years. There is a whole cornicopia of planes there including some wild paint jobs. And do I see F-111's? Where the Aussies in town that day? Fun stuff. And I swear I see the Raptor test squadron there too. Including some in Desert Camo. Am I seeing things? Cheers! Pilotasso Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Yep, looks like there are F-111's along with what looks like mirages F-1 or F-16's as well(its hard to make out the sillowette from above with this res). The US F-15's are easely distiguishable. The desert Cammo I could be wrong but they look like F-15's as well, Israeli F-15's, do they ever participated in anything in the US? I cant see any F-22, but I cannot Identify the large fighters at the lower bottom corner, They apear to be Su-27's but by logic it woulnt make much sense. Between the Desert cammo fighters and the alleged Su-27's there are what apear to be 3 A-6's Intruders, 2 with folded wings. .
NaturalPoint - Jason Posted April 15, 2005 Author Posted April 15, 2005 I hope I don't go to jail because of this, but I find it completely fascinating. If the FBI pays me a visit this afternnon I will know. As I panned around I found other cool stuff. Here's all the pics. OK back to work. They had F-117 parked in the covered area just to the left of it. We had our A-10's there for AIR WARRIOR in 2001. I even got a few pics of the F-117's, but I can't find them now.
Trident Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 The aircraft in camo (as opposed to grey schemes) are probably aggressors. The ones on the first image would seem to be Hornets, they look too large to be F-16s.
Bolter Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 What they look to me: Everything above the row of F-111s are F-15s Imediately below are 7 F/A-18s, 2 F-15s and 5 F-16s, 8 F-15s, 7 F-16, 4 F-16s and 3 EB-6 Prowlers, 6 F-15s, and what look like 8 two-seater F-16Bs. Probably used as chase planes. Bolter "No plan survives contact with the enemy" Moltke
sullione Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Stop taking pictures of my base! I must upchannel this to my commander. J/K. The camo jets are the aggressors. They are planning to make the F-15 into aggressors also. Just thought I'd add that little tid bit.
NaturalPoint - Jason Posted April 15, 2005 Author Posted April 15, 2005 Damn I was wrong no Raptors. But I know the Test and Evalution Squadron there is testing the Raptors. One crashed recently on takeoff. I once sat at the edge of the runway next to a junkyard accross the street from it and watched all kinds of awesome jets fly over. Plus I went to the airshow there several times. Awesome base. Jason http://www.naturalpoint.com and http://www.trackir.com
