:wassat: I have heard that DCS A-10C Module is supposed to be compatible with each other. Does this mean that I would be able to fly the KA-50 and the A-10C, as well as use all the new terrain, by running the same EXE. file. Or is this just compatible for multiplayer.

If you mean 3rd party terrain packs: which packs will be compatible with which DCS modules is an open question right now.

Now I have a question on the subject.

Will Black Shark be updated with the new features that A-10 will have like grass, new 3D models, AI etc and will the same happen with all the older modules as new come out?

Maybe it's an obvious yes but I feel the need to ask.

I'm not entirely sure how that'll go. It's not quite an "obvious yes" though - all depends on how the pieces fit together and that's above my paygrade. :P

However, I'd expect that anything that impacts pure gameplay will transfer over as long as online compatibility is made to stay - it would be weird to have conflicts in weapon behaviour or AI depending on which exe is used as server host.

3D models, grass and similar "eyecandy" does not have the same effect on gameplay though - the only impact of having different renderings on different clients would be the same type of impact you'd get from clients having different graphics settings.

But in the end, the best answer probably is that this will most likely be determined as and when new modules are reaching the end of their development and what engineer resources are available to patch the older modules. Remember that patching, even if it is to bring in features made for a cousin product, would require another QA proceedure to ensure that implementation of the new non-critical feature did not introduce any new bugs.

Yeah, the AI and other features critical for online compatibility are obvious upgrades to previous modules.

I sure wish all of the modules would be exactly the same except for the aircraft. Otherwise it will be against the advertisements and the idea of "evolving product" would be gone. If all the modules could be just added to the same existing base.

Thanks for reply.

Given the approach that ED took with FC2 i'd say it is not unlikely that the older modules will be patched to the newest engine, if they do not run into dire problems.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.
