ZQuickSilverZ Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Have any of you tried these 3d products? Do they work well with Blackshark? I have got to say I am leaning more toward the IZ3D than the Nvidia. With a headset and Track IR pro clip already on my head I really dont want the wieght of shudder glasses. Do any of you know of any 120 Htz screens with touch capabilites? I think a 3d touch screen would be awsome. Also I saw a tech demo of a curved monitor. Do any of you have any info on these? I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. "Off with his job" Mr Burns on the Simpsons. "I've seen steering wheels / arcade sticks / flight sticks for over a hundred dollars; why be surprised at a 150 dollar item that includes the complexities of this controller?! It has BLINKY LIGHTS!!" author unknown. These titles are listed in the chronological order I purchased them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
average_pilot Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi, I'm new here. I registered to reply to this. I'm very interested in 3D gaming/simming. I've tried Blackshark with old (pre 3d vision) nvidia drivers. Overall, it works great. There are only 2 flaws, and are the same for lock on: when you are at a certain distance from a cloud, it switches to 2D, and stays at screen depth until you distance from it. Quite annoying, but hopefully with Blackshark you don't normally fly at cloud level. The second one is that the HUD isn't collimated. That means that when you look through the HUD, all simbology is doubled, and it's difficult to aim the target designator or read flight data, etc. The HUD problem is the bigger one for me, because when Blackshark was in developtment and I saw those videos, the HUD seemed collimated. I was anticipating a great 3D effect. But it turned out to be a trick made moving the HUD simbology along with the pilot eye point. I've never tried the iz3d display. If you don't know it, you also have the Zalman monitor as a third option. It also uses polarized glasses. I don't think there are any 3D touch screen display, not yet. But it sounds quite probably to exist in the near future. 120 Hz are going to become the minimum standard, and touch screens are getting popular.
Mnemonic Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 The only stereoscopic solution that worked well for me in BS, with collimated HUD was Vuzix VR920 (with native iWear driver) - HUD working great there, because stereo made by moving actual camera from side/to/side and recalcualting HUD position, not like in other methods like NVidia one's. But VR920 have other downside - it's low resolution. IZ3D driver didn't work for me well in BS.
average_pilot Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 With collimated HUD I mean that it seems to be projected outside the cockpit at several meters, like it happens with real life HUD's. This way you can, at the same time, look at the exterior and read the HUD. This happens, for example, in Aerosoft's F-16 for FSX. But this doesn't happen with Blackshark's HUD.
