Sabre-TLA Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) As a Canadian I was uncomfortable flying around in another countries helicopter and wanted to fly in a Canadian one. Hey it's a Canadian thing, eh? Unfortunately many of the missions don't include Canada so I can't just edit each mission and select my country. Also the ME currently doesn't have an easy way to add a country if it is missing from a mission so what was I to do? I could put a copy of my Canadian skin in /Bazar/TempTextures but then that changes all helicopters in game using that default skin. I didn't like that. If I'm on assignment in Russia flying with Russians I want their helicopters to still use the Russian Skins but I want my bird to be Canadian. I downloaded the DCS Skinning tutorial from RCN_Moose and started to read. http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=1418#dl What I found out was that I could add my skin to the list of Russian skins quit easily. Then I could go into the ME and select my Canadian Skin. I'm still flying as a Russian but with my Canadian skin on my bird! Perfect. The other Russian Birds are flying with their previously chosen skin so they aren't effected. It looks really cool in game. It's exactly the look I wanted. Just as if I was really on loan to some other country but flying a Canadian Bird. Here is what I did (Note I'm using a skin downloaded and installed via Modman that did the work of adding the skin to the Canadian country section in all the .lua files). There are other posts talking about how to add a skin but I would use RCN_Moose's tutorial as the best way to learn. First I made a backup of the \Ka-50\Scripts\Database folder. Then I copied this entry: color_scheme("{6EE3F11E-9ED8-48af-B8F3-08E917F59529}", _("Canadian_Olive_Grey"), from the \Ka-50\Scripts\Database\helicopters\Ka-50.lua and put it at the end of the cnt_unit section for the country in the \Ka-50\Scripts\Database\db_countries.lua using Notepad++ Here is an example for Georgia: cnt_unit("{3457BB1E-523F-4C24-BBEA-58D028623F05}", "Ka-50", { color_scheme("{c9c17790-eb0b-11dd-ba2f-0800200c9a66}", "Georgia Camo"), color_scheme("{6EE3F11E-9ED8-48af-B8F3-08E917F59529}", "Canadian_Olive_Grey"), Now I can go into the ME and no matter what country is the default for the mission I can select my Canadian skin. I think this technique would work for any skins for any country. This seemed a whole lot easier to me than trying to figure out how to add Canada to a mission. I hope this helps others out in adding their country specific skins. :) Edited March 7, 2010 by Sabre-TLA MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
