I'm wanting to fly my new game of L.O.F.C. 1.1 however I just bought the game and I'm running into some serious problems:

First I downloaded it and installed it over my Lomac 1.02. After it was installed eliminated the previous desktop icon and then I pushed the new .exe on the desktop and it immediately gives me a code.

I never even got the chance to enter the serial number??

So I take down the notepad report and my new serial and enter that on the website where it asks and..

Nothing

So I enter my serial number plus the 1275 code manually a second time to activate it and nothing happened?

I then copy my notepad copy and send it to support, ( russian e-mail address?) along with my serial number to validate that I'm not some kind of hack. And now what I supposed to do with this dead game on my desktop? Heck I cannot even play my original game because I was asked to get rid of the desktop exe??

proof:

I did everything that I'm supposed to do so now what??

Thank you!

Not one answer?

I haven't received response from E-mail either. This has been the worst experience from any digital download ever! Frankly I don't believe this is good customer support.

I went ahead and uninstalled this game because I wanted to fly tonight so I went ahead and reloaded my original game.

I have a huge problem right now is that I payed for a game that offers no support and now I'm left with a bunch of starforce crap in my device manager.

Help.

3 hours and you went mad? perhaps half the world, including support, was sleeping. Also, it's sunday XD. Patience !

Anyway, you have LockOn 1.02 and bought the download version of Flamming Cliffs 1.1b right? well if this is correct, you don't have any Starforce thing in your device manager (because it uses an new Starforce scheme without drivers), if you have then probably it is from another game or application. Or perhaps you bought LockOn Gold? specify please.

Also, .exe are not in the desktop, those are just shotcuts. Flamming Cliffs replaces LockOn shortcuts. If you can't see them refresh the desktop (press F5) and they will appear.

Ok steps are as follows (for Flamming Cliffs download version):

- If you have LockOn with mods, de-install the whole game and delete it's folder, then reinstall it without any patch (plain 1.02 version). Don't install the game in /program files.

- Install Flamming Cliffs, execute it and activate Starforce with the serial number (Starforce window will pop up).

-- If you have Windows 7, an error of Starforce incompatibility will pop up. Don't reboot even if you're asked to and download and install Starforce update for W7: http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvup.zip

- If you were asked to reboot, do it now. If you weren't asked, do it anyway (it can't harm XD)

- Download and install SEASONAL PACK and MOVIE PACK: http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en

- Install Flamming Cliffs 1.12b patch: http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en

I apologies for being rude however I'm just sick and tired of these flight sims giving me a headache during installation.

The website should have told me to update the Starforce driver. BTW-I bought the digital down loadable Flaming Cliffs 1.1.

I have a real problem with buying a product where I'm in the dark not knowing I have to update that driver before I can proceed activating this game.

I got it working now where it was simple and I am up to speed with the 1.12b but the problem that I have with this intrusive Starforce driver is that I had to disable my Daemon tools in order for this game to operate.

Is there a way I can remove this driver? I have a backup Maxtor USB drive where I have .iso copies of my software instead of using the old fashioned DVD/CD methods

- My last comment is if you in business and you offer to sell your product 24/7 then you should offer customer service the same hours.. And "No" I haven't even receive confirmation to my E-Mail.

There is no Starforce driver in this Flamming Cliffs version (it's called Starforce Proactive, it's a more modern Starforce and non intrusive). It uses a number generated by your pc configuration. Perhaps daemon tools tricks windows into thinking it has virtual devices, and that makes Starforce think you changed the real hardware thus it need to rebuild another "number" for the new pc configuration (just guessing). I remember using virtual dvd drive but not from daemon tools, and it didn't mess with Starforce, perhaps that program is not as intrusive.

But, again, there is no driver, so you can't really uninstall it.

Also, I suppose there is no problem installing the seasonal pack after 1.12b.

About 24x7 customer service I agree with you, but since ED is a very little corporation I suspect they have to cut here and there to be able to put simulators like those in the market. I'm not defending them, just thinking in a possible scenario. Anyway, community is usually faster anywhere you go.

Safe flights!

( russian e-mail address?)

Eagle Dynamics is based in Moscow, Russian Federation, yes. ;)

The specific complaint about 24/7 customer service is one I have difficulty understanding. I can understand the utility of course, but the simple fact that you are offered the ability to perform your purchase during off-hours and weekends during which time it is economically infeasible for Eagle Dynamics to maintain telephone and e-mail guarding staff is a specific advantage of the internet. It is no different to when I book my hotel nights via the internet even though the specific hotel does not have staff at that particular hour - it saves me the bother of waiting. Like Distiler mentioned, Eagle Dynamics is not a large company, and it does not have backing from any major publisher.

Also, do note that some networks - most specifically Comcast - have a nasty habit of eating response mails from Eagle Dynamics, which is causing much trouble in communication (and is one reason why having this forum is such a good resource.)

(Besides, I kind of suspect a lot of people in the western hemisphere would be frustrated with having to sit to Moscow time before they can order a product - not to mention the bother of not being able to order during the weekends when you are most likely to desire to do so, since that's when most have free time. ;) )

Anyways, regarding the complaint on information about starforce updates on the lockon.ru site, I'll forward a notice to the responsible staff. Rest assured that ED is thankful for critique, though it is prefered if it is constructive critique given in a friendly tone. :)

Oh, and most major computer hardware manufacturers that I have had reason to contact that do have 24/7 customer support still often have up to several days response time. Keep that in mind. ;)

This is what I get back from Russian from Alexander Sobal:

I see you already have found your serial number and tried activating it.

Unfortunately I've found you are launching Flaming Cliffs on Windows 7.

Flaming Cliffs was made in Windows XP era and doesn't support Windows 7.

But we are not going to make a patch. There are too many features were

implemented in our simulation engine in 4 years. Now we are working on a

new version of Flaming Cliffs, it will be the general update. The details

are available here:

** It would have been nice to know that Flaming Cliffs was not compatible with Windows 7 before I bought it. But in usual fashon, I was given the sales pitch to buy more stuff!!! AND just for only 30 more bucks I can buy a bigger patch!!

Laughable!

I played this game a few times in single QMB and I was wondering why it had the tendency to CTD on multiple occassions!!

Eagle Dynamics might not give support for FC under Windows 7 (when you buy it it says "Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/Vista"), but that doesen't mean it is not compatible with Windows 7 (some sound weirdness in multiplayer like with Vista, nothing more), in fact many people plays it perfectly out of the box, me for example (W7 64bit).

I received more help from Distler and I'd like to take the time to thank him

~Cheers!

It seems all too common that moderators in the flight sim genre are quick to the defense of the developers rather than customers who pay their bills.

Examples: IL2, RoF etc..

Thanks..

Dear Mr XXX,

I see you already have found your serial number and tried activating it.

Unfortunately I've found you are launching Flaming Cliffs on Windows 7.

Flaming Cliffs was made in Windows XP era and doesn't support Windows 7.

But we are not going to make a patch. There are too many features were

implemented in our simulation engine in 4 years. Now we are working on a

new version of Flaming Cliffs, it will be the general update. The details

are available here:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=47144

Nevertheless there is one unofficial method, our users on the forum have

found it. You may follow it at your own peril only.

1. User Account Control should be set to "Never notify me" for the moment

of the first launch of Flaming Cliffs:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-

or-off

2. Install patch 1.12b:

http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en

3. Launch the game. StarForce window should pop up asking your permission

to install the drivers. Agree to that. After the drivers are installed

reboot Windows.

4. After rebooting "driver incompatible" message appears. Ignore it and

update StarForce drivers (see item "2. Versions before 5.5"):

http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/

5. Reboot Windows.

6. The first launch of FC should be done as Administrator via right-click

menu on lockon.bat (it's in the root of FC installation).

Actually the old StarForce 3.x generation does use drivers which can be

uninstalled with a SFREMOVE utility of StarForce (force.com/support/drivers/]link to the page, force.com/support/sfdrvrem.zip]direct link to the utility).

Regarding the seasonal pack. Yes, it can be installed at any time.

Regards,

LockOn.ru administrator

Alexander Sobol

** This what I got word for word so take it from there..

Ah that is another story, you didn't show me that whole reply in the first place. Well, as I said, W7 is not officialy supported but it works very well. It's more a matter of wording than anything else. I retire my sentence, Alexander Sobol explained it well enough.

The system reqs for LO:FC1.1 states that it supports Windows 2k, XP and Vista. Note how it does not mention support for Windows 7. Ergo Windows 7 is not supported. ;)

The information Alexander gave you should solve that issue, though.

It's very tiny and one can overlook it, also it's only specified in the download version, not in the cd one:

"Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/Vista."

 Damn I'm getting old and cranky and I missed that.. ..I'm going to blame the other Russian folks include Oleg and the NeoQ boys for giving me an attitude. Heck I might as well add E.D. as well since they are on the top of my "list" :smartass:
