Hey Wags,

I was wondering if there might be a release of something along the lines of a "Total Pack" on Steam that includes LOMAC, Flaming Cliffs, and this new Flaming Cliffs 2 add-on. I can't remember of DCS : Black Shark has a Steam purchase option.

Although I already own LOMAC and Flaming cliffs (Bought Lock-On Gold twice as well as the Flaming Cliffs download...what can I say, I'm a big supporter of moder jet simulators. lol), the ease of installtion and use with Steam is greatly appealing.

Is Steam a viable purchase option for these products in the near future/future?

Thanks for your time!

They will say no because it basically "doubles the amount of DRM on the software" and they apparently already considered it ruled it out.

Bummer I know. I love steam alot, and I think it would be a new market to tap, I doubt it will happen.

Its gonna be on Direct2Drive at least. So its not a total loss.

That is unfortunate. I wouldn't mind buying the entire series again if it were on Steam, if not for the simple fact I can keep my CDs/DVDs all sealed up.

I was hoping for a LOMAC + Flaming Cliffs + Flaming Cliffs 2.0 + DCS : Blackshark pack. 1 purchase, all in one shot. I know Flaming Cliffs is not required for Flaming Cliffs 2.0, but I'd purchase it again just to throw more support to the Development team.

Both FC2 and DCS:BS are available as digital purchase at http://www.lockon.co.uk and http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com. Only CD you need to unseal is the LockOn one. ;)

About Steam, I agree that it's a nice platform as a customer, but it's one more mouth to feed (so to speak) and I guess it just costs too much for the return compared to self-publishing and D2D. I'm not 100% sure about the reasons, though, that's just my own personal guess.

Most software releases on STEAM have dropped their own copy-protection and use only STEAMS security measures. Most recent example would be Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

I never had a problem with buying DCS:BS online, so I will most likely use their e-shop for FC2 as well.

Still I'd consider a STEAM release for different reasons, though it's probably a cost-factor to be considered.

Steam also sells games with 3rd party DRMs only. I think, Silent Hunter 5 is sold on steam, but is protected only by DRM from UBI.

I didn't need it. Probably Russian version isn't considered as addon. :D

ZaltysZ beat me to it. :P

There's also plenty recent examples of the opposite. Anything from UBI still has their own DRM, AFAIK. Lots of Steam games have Games for Windows attached to them, which is at least a light form of DRM, and a very big form of PITA in my humble opinion. ;)

To me, this is all overkill since Steam already offers a reasonable amount of protection with the added aspect that you have to have the client available on the computer AND the software downloaded directly from Steam to actually play.

The reason why ED doesn't use steam is probably as EtherealN said, "one more mouth to feed". Games cost more on Steam because a portion of that money Valve keeps (and rightfully so, obviously, considering the convieniet services they provide). Also, I'm certain there's a cost to the developer to get a game "Steam-ready", be it time, money, or both.
