L4key Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Quick one - presumably an engine failure on one means it's screwed? Anyone know? Can't presumably glide very well like a fixed wing nor could it autorotate like a 'copter?
zakobi Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) Afaik it can power both rotors with a single engine. Edited March 27, 2010 by zakobi 1
AlphaOneSix Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 The Osprey autorotates poorly, and it glides poorly. If you lose both engines, you better have some luck on your side. That being said, there is a series of interconnecting driveshafts and gearboxes that allow either engine to run both props. So losing just one engine is not a complete disaster...maybe. 1
L4key Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Thanks - cross driving from engines makes sense. I suppose similar to the BS, one engine doesn't power just one rotor.
