JG11Preusse Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 (edited) Okai, just a few control questions again - sorry for repeating: - You did reinstall, in a different location. - Did you try to start the game without configuring any controllers / tuning graphics / touching anything else .. at all? Not messing with any files in notepad? Not saving any options in the game? i installed the game and tried to start it ... didnt do anything between. by the way .... the game never started ... how to set up something in the game ? clicking the desktop icon an then the "launcher.exe dont works anymore" failure pops up after 3 seconds. never had the chance to start the game. in rthis thread i posted a picture of the error message, which popps up all time Edited April 12, 2010 by JG11Preusse
Panzertard Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Because it looks like some of the config files are broken in such a bad way, at least according the one of the errors you got. So why does it look like files are broken / not being read from your disks / end up correctly in memory. So, hm - CHKDSK - run it on all the disks you got. See troubleshooter for CHKDSK. CHKDSK C: /F and CHKDSK D: /F etc if you have more disks. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

Panzertard Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 You misunderstand me - or how a index-problem/crosslinked files can behave in Windows. It can give the most curious problem - and it takes 4 mins to run such a check and fic the problem. I assure you, I've seen this many times over the years - but at least you will eliminiate this from contributing to your porblem. We're still just trying to get an idea what can be wrong with your pc. And sorry about the wrong link there - Ethereal posted the correct link :) The mind is like a parachute. Hope you get it sorted this i will try today evening. what i can tell you now is, that i know that the requester for the serial number pops up, when i hit the multiplayer icon. i was afraid to enter the registration key there, unless the single player dont works, because now i allready installed the game 3 or 4 times new and i can use the key 7 times.. right ? also the checkdisk suggestion i ill test today later. greetings andi Edited April 13, 2010 by JG11Preusse
sc1949 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I had heaps of trouble when I got this, it turned out to be a Catalyst driiver issue, at the time I changed to 9.6, and all was solved, now on 10.2 and it still works.
JG11Preusse Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 I had heaps of trouble when I got this, it turned out to be a Catalyst driiver issue, at the time I changed to 9.6, and all was solved, now on 10.2 and it still works. hello, form grafik card there is only one windows 7 driver availible. Checked it yesterday. no other of the mentioned programms have problems with the grafic card or its drivers. also lock on fc 2.0 not. i can not belive, that only this one peace of software can have trouble with the driver. if so, the programmers maybe can fix it, because for me it sounds like a bs programming problem. greetings andi
EtherealN Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 i can not belive, that only this one peace of software can have trouble with the driver. if so, the programmers maybe can fix it, because for me it sounds like a bs programming problem. This all depends on what various software uses. For example, the old ATI x1950 and x1900 cards work quite fine with pretty much all games, but a fault in their OpenGL drivers causes issues with launcher.exe. Said problem is rare in other games since few products use OpenGL. For that one, the solution was to rollback to Catalyst 8.12. And unfortunately, to fix it we need to know what exactly is happening so we can reproduce it, and right now we are at the impasse of neither you nor us understanding what is causing this, and therefore it cannot be reproduced. That's why there's so many basic questions being thrown around. The best help to fix this would be a list of as much information as possible about both your DCS:BS and your FC2 installations. Since they use the same method for most things it should be either an intrinsic difference between the two (which I find unlikely, since said differences should be unable to cause this, but I can't say for sure), or a difference in the installs. Information that might give a clue would be things like install paths, shortcut path and locations, and such things for both titles. I'm sorry to ask for that, but I am starting to suspect that this is one of those traditional semicolon problems (if you don't have programming background - a common programming error can be to have a : instead of a ; somewhere in the code, and with the two looking so similar those can be absolute bastards to find. I spent more hours tracking down such a bug than I spent programming on a command-line calculator I made for myself a long while back, thanks to a faulty debugger), so it might be one very very tiny detail that is easy to overlook and hard to think of in troubleshooting. Distiler Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Well done. It seems Ati website drivers can't be used with Toshiba laptops (royal screw here), I guess it's because some fan/temp protection custom profile by Toshiba drivers. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx The following notebooks are not supported in this release: Any notebook launched after this driver release. Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel chipsets. Toshiba notebooks (please check with your notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks) Sony VAIO notebooks (please check with your notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks) Panasonic notebooks (please check with your notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks) Anyway I'm more for a checkdisk thing, or a complete uninstall with a registry check and a reinstallation. You problem is really weird (but also Ati drivers create weirdness all around lol). I'll have to think a bit to see what I can come up with here, but I thought I'd make sure to respond to this one right away, just to ensure you know how it works: The system detects your hardware code to decide whether it is on a new machine, if it is then it will request an activation. Note that this is solely linked to hardware code - it has absolutely nothing to do with installations. You can uninstall each evening and reinstall every morning without spending an activation, as long as the hardware stays the same. (EDIT: Note that virtual hardware, such as DaemonTools DVD emulators and so on, show up as actual hardware and therefore change your hardware code.) I would like you to do the activation through the multiplayer link, since this can help us ensure that the simulator itself is fully operational. It is split into two different executables - launcher.exe and dcs.exe, the former used setup and mission design; when launching into actual flying the launcher.exe will save a file into the Temp folder and call dcs.exe to launch - thereby freeing up memory in your computer; when mission is complete dcs.exe quits and calls launcher.exe to load again. Multiplayer however goes directly into dcs.exe. So if you are able to load into multiplayer and connect to a server and fly (even though you will have been unable to set up your controllers, loading in is sufficient to test this), we will have established that this should be solely linked to the Launcher executable. JG11Preusse Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 update from my side now ..some bad and some good news :) 1. made checkdisk at all partitions >>> no result, same problem 2. started multiplayer game .... typed in the registration key ..... game works. ok window mode and so on, but this is only a reason, because i dont set up the options. hmmm ... what now ? looks like the game itself works, but starting the single player game is not possible due to the error system message "launcher.exe dont work anymore". i hope this information helps. some additional infos: desctop single player icon has following entries : target = "C:\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\stable\Launcher.exe" --console work-folder (ok bad translation, but it is under target folder infos) = "C:\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50" pls guys ... let me fly now :)
EtherealN Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Are the quotation marks there exactly as in the shortcut properties? My own are like this: target: C:\Games\BlackShark\bin\stable\Launcher.exe --console start in: C:\Games\BlackShark Note absense of quotation marks. Shouldn't make a difference as far as I know, but you could try just omitting the quotation marks. EtherealN Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Hmm... The quote marks are likely there due to the fact that you have a "-" symbol in the path. (EDIT: And the space between Eagle and Dynamics.) I'm going to uninstall and reinstall with such a name to see if I can replicate the problem in this way. I'm currently installing into C:\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50, I'll let you know shortly.
