How do I tell if another aircraft is friend or foe at BVR ? Im trying to play on the 104th server but am worried I dont want to TK.

Depends on your aircraft, really. For the Eagle you'll find friendlies as dots and hostiles as bars on your radar scope, and if you lock a friendly the target indicator on your HUD will have a cross over it to alert you to the fact that you should not fire.

The Sues and the Mig29 have double bars in the HUD radar display for friendlies and on the cockpit radar display enemies are triangles and friendlies are circles, I'm not 100% sure if there are "unknowns" or not in FC2.

You must further be careful in the russian fighters, because if the radar loses lock- it willautomatically default to the Thermal EOS system in an attempt to reacquire the target's heat signature. Heat cannot be distinguished as friend or foe. If you detect an aircraft from it's heat sig- and you are not absolutely certain it was the aircraft you lost radar contact on, etc- you might want to lock it thermal, then switch back to radar and perform your IFF query
