Sel94 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Hi, I'm new to LockOn and I have a few quick Qs.PS I have Flaming Cliffs 2 + I'm extremely new to computers so detail would be appreciated! 1) So I use a quad core processor but this game is old so would running it on 1 core be better? 2)Is there any software (secure!) I can get to improve my experience with this game? Thanks!
EtherealN Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Welcome to the forum! 1) Flaming Cliffs 2 is not old - indeed it's brand new. It will thread to two cores. Generally speaking you never lose anything letting an application access multiple cores - the worst thing that can happen is that it just doesn't use them. Having multiple cores available even for what's called a "single-thread" application is also good, since the operating system (Vista and 7, XP does not have this feature due to it's age) can do some load-balance and basically move the application thread to whichever core is the least busy. If run on a single-core machine or environment, the application will have to share that core with the operating system and pretty much everything else, deteriorating performance. 2) If you check the "Mods and Addons" section, and find an application called "ModMan 7.2" you can download and install modifications from lockonfiles.com and other sites. This is generally speaking quite safe. In some cases you might need to edit files for some changes you want to make, and in those cases - do NOT use windows notepad. It can corrupt the syntax of vital setting files. You can google for Notepad++ instead, which is a free and open source code editor, and safe to use with configuration files.
