Bestandskraft Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) This is what I see when entering some missions. Sometimes it automatically reverts back to the normal cockpit after some time, sometimes not. I have no idea what causes it or why it sometimes fixes itself, other than that it seems to be restricted to missions in which the engine is already running when entering it. It happens with a multi-monitor setup and without, both in windowed mode and fullscreen. Known problem? Any ideas? EDIT: Calling up the F11 airfield view and then going back to cockpit view seems to fix the problem. Edited May 25, 2010 by Bestandskraft 1
nemises Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Hi Bestandskraft, The problem you are likely seeing is the caching (or non-caching on your case!) of textures for the cockpit. What happens in general terms is each new texture is loaded and "cached" (or saved in other words) into the memory that your video card has on board. Different people have differnt amounts of video memory, and once this is filled up, textures are then stored in main memory (your RAM), and ultimately they can also be stored in "virtual memory" (on your hard drive!). When you change views significantly, it's possible for a whole bunch of new textures to be called up and placed into video memory becasue this has the fastest access for your video card to display from. However, as above if your vid card memory is full, the new textures might "replace" the spot of old cahced textures , such as the cockpit textures, and force them to be stored either in main memory, or virtual memory. As a result, when switching back to the cockpit, it can take some time for the cockpit textures to be re-sourced (this time from virtual memory for example), and you can see the issue. A quick solution to this is as follows: 1) get a video card with more memory :) 2) lower the texture resolution (in options, setting, detail) so that more textures can fit in vid memory 3) lower the "cockpit resolution" also (same as number two but specifically for the cockpit) If you lower the amount of space used up by textures, then they should all fit in Vid memory, and you will see many less instances of slow-chaced textures going forward. Hope this helps!
EtherealN Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Note: "res of cockpit displays" isn't about the textures of the cockpit, it's about the resolution of the ABRIS and Shkval CRT monitor. Bestandskraft Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Cool, thanks. Getting more video memory is not an option since I already have a Radeon 5970. The "F11-workaround" has worked every time so far though.
EtherealN Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Then it's probably not memory that's spooking you. Do you have Catalyst AI active? If so, disable and check. Testing older and newer drivers is also an option. Remember - newer driver is not necessarily better. And frequent driver changes increase the risk of remnant driver fragments causing your system to misbehave. DxDiag reports and the other guides in the Troubleshooting thread helps you help us help you. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
garengarch Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) I've got the same cockpit problem - thanks for the f11 tip, that helps. ATI 5850 1Gb win 7/64 drivers 10.4 and 10.5, AI on/off, tried all quality settings, tried all texture settings in game. Same with BS ver 1.0 and 1.2. edit: Tried re-installing BS and ATI drivers from clean and same textures missing with sharkpit 2.0a Edited May 28, 2010 by garengarch details Vega 2700x /16Gb ram/480Gb SSD/1Tb Seagate/nVidia 2080/Win 10 64 bit Rift. jbeam Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Bumping because I am having the same exact issue as the OP. The F11 workaround works, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a permanent solution. ATI 5700 1 GB 10.6 drivers
acid1216 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I am also having the same problem. I went from a 512mb 9800GT to a 1 gb radeon 5970 with 10.7 drivers. Any solutions yet?
