First I'm wondering about the 1.0.2 patch. Do I really need it? I'm hesitating installing it because the problems reported in the Problems and Bugs section are scaring me off. At the moment I don't have any problems and I don't do multiplayer. And what has been added to the game through the patch, any thing that would warrant my interest (like new rockets or avionics functions)?

And my multiplayer question:

Currently I still use the simple flight model, becuase I've focused on learning the avionics and the KA-50 is a fright to fly authentically. I'll be learning how to fly it soon, since I've pretty much mastered the avionics. So my question is, how does DCS handle those settings. Like if I join a server and I'm running a Game Flight Model and a Realistic Avionics Mode. Will I have those settings in a multiplayer game?

Oh and I've finally learned how to deal with AAA and MANPADSs effectively. The losers don't stand a chance now! :joystick:

On things added in the patch: a brand new sound engine that runs in a separate thread, thereby freeing up CPU resources. This should make DCS run faster on multicore computers.

In multiplayer you'll have whatever realism settings the server is running.

Thanks,

Will you be releasing an update to 1.0.2 to address the issues that are being reported? I ask because the updated sound engine sounds interesting. Ever since I've owned BS, I get this awful flanging effect when I switch views multiple times. I've updated my sound card to fix this, but to no avail.

If problems with the installer itself are identified that can be fixed, a patch might be theoretically possible, but I don't know what the plans are there. So far the issue is that it has been hard to figure out what is actually going wrong for those that do experience problems. But do recall that those that have problems are in a vast minority - you don't see everyone who successfully patched post about it, so the portion of people affected seem larger than it is. Generally, as long as the patch is applied to a fresh install there should be no issues bar such that can be caused by other components in the system.

(Example - a while ago Steam patched my Mass Effect, and it broke. This leads one to think that the patch broke it, but in actual fact I found the hard drive to be failing - the patch had managed to write to a bad sector and when Mass Effect tried to open that file things went dramatically wrong. That's the big issue in trailing down problems in computers - correlation is almost never the same as causation. :( )

I would get the patch, it works fine for me and I'm horrible at understanding anything.

P.S. You have Mass Effect! So your into aliens, huh?;)
