Ka-50 fast attack

Hi,

 

How do they do in real life when performing a fast pop-up attack? You need to hold the trim button to steer the helicopter, while simultaneously steering and locking the Shkval quickly. Unfortunately, all these buttons happen to be on the stick. How is it supposed to be done?

their is no real popup fast attack other than. locate targets at long range save to ABRIUS, Sneak to a in range position set up the data link system to auto locate the TGT and pop up hit uncage SCVAL will auto slew to TGT lock fire. drop back down after hit. this can limit your exposure but SAM's can fly faster than your vicker, and you have to stay exposed wile the vic is in flight.

How do you locate targets at long range and save to abris.

you can lock targets out to 15k and save the target location in the abrius as a data link target. when you move up close you have to select the target you want to kill first from your saved targets befor poping up. I will not go into detail on how to do this on the forum. You can eather read the manual, or you can check out the dcs-mercenaries.com find the forum and request training from myself. or another Merc pilot.

hey, great tip.

I was struggling yesterday hitting convoy of tanks. I used gun sight so I can fly fast and bombard them with rockets. The problem is as OP mentioned is holding the trim key to try to align the pipe on the convoy then use another button to fire rockets. I don’t see why I can’t use just one fire button instead of one for cannon and one for rockets because you can only have one active weapon at a time! Suggestion?

1. Because that's how the Ka-50 really is and DCS is a sim at heart.

2. You can set both triggers to the same joystick button though. You do have to cycle which one is active but at least the triggers are combined.

Why do you have your fingers on the trim button in the first place?

 

Pop up, come out of Auto Hover, hit the Flight Director button - this works the same was as flying with trim in. You have full control throughout your manuvers and still keep the inflight stabs. This is how it should be done.

 

If your trimming and trying to manuver for a kill, the last thing you need is the AP to be fighting you.

FD is going to be next in my list to try. Holding trim works great when i need to escape a hot zone since all what i need is to escape and dispense counter measure.

Need to hold the trim button to maneuver the helicopter? No, you don't. Even without Flight Director.
